The freezer icemaker shouldn't have problems, it's in the proper environment. The door one is just asking for failures down the road.
Never, ever buy a fridge that has an icemaker in the refrigerator section. Wrong humidity, wrong temperature environment. It's impossible to keep the icemaker completely sectioned off from the refrigerator's environment, so it will have issues maintaining proper temperatures and low humidity levels. Accumulated high humidity conditions, will lead to failures and frosting over of the ice maker mechanism. Plus the ice chute at the door can't be perfectly sealed, so warm and high absolute humidity air will make its way to the ice maker.
Also, the rear of the refrigerator freezing solid on some models.
I had to fix it myself as the repair folks could not reason beyond what was in the documents.
Thawed out the unit and clipped the drain tube at the bottom near the tray (1/4 "). Replaced the heater insert but that was not needed. Tube would stop up since the hole in the end was very small.
However, the rest of the unit was pretty good. 3 ice makers under warranty and some of them were probably the tubes freezing in the back.
My very old Whirlpool is still working at my nephew's house. 22 years.
