Anyone seen a deal for a 256GB version? 64GB goes fast after factoring in the space needed for iOS. If this is used for flights, for example, loading up some videos/movies for the kids taps out the storage very fast. I see deals on the 64GB version but never on the 256GB. Any insight would be very appreciated!

Use USB-C drives for movies and get the Infuse media app to play them. It's a beautiful thing.
CORRECTION: This iPad does not have USB-C. Sorry. But for iPad Air and better my suggestion stands!
UPDATE: Someone mentioned you can add lightning adapter or get lightning USB drive to load up media. https://a.co/d/hb4MEUg

This is an excellent deal but the Target price mistake deal during BF beat it in states with taxes.
After taxes + cursed ewaste fee, I got 4 iPads for $252 each.
Edit: look at these people downvoting me. I was correcting what he said -- this is NOT the lowest price for all states with tax. Target's deal was the best.
I think the BF deal at Meijer was less but it involved several coupons and online order with store pickup so wasn't an option if now store near by.
it really depends on what he/she mostly use it for. But I'd say it should be fine, especially if you just want an inexpensive i-device for him/her to play with. You actually could not find a better alternative than this. It should be good enough for at least coming 4-5 years.
Of coz, you should not use to store a lot of photos/videos (icloud/NAS should help for this purpose if needed) and download tonnes of games without proper and occasional storage management
32GB gets us by… but man, went on vacation for Christmas and felt like we had to offload damn near everything to download stuff on Disney Plus.
Wish we got the 256GB.
I think 64GB would be fine, but no matter what they are going to fill it up and you have to manage the storage for them at some point.
I just don't understand the use case for picture taking with a tablet. Everyone has a phone, else upgrade and get a standalone camera, aka DSLR. I could only understand apps and application files, really. For Disney+, what's that use case? Downloading series for offline availability? That would make sense, if so.

EDIT: It seems the 2nd free year is not applicable to touchscreen tablets (is there a non-touchscreen tablet?). So 3 years instead of 4.
Try these drives: https://a.co/d/hnvYmt7
They're very fast and very small drives.
