Available Colors:About this Product:
  • An exquisite high-end Telecaster experience awaits the player who gets his hands on a Special Edition Custom Telecaster FMT HH. First, it looks phenomenal, with a carved flame maple top on a mahogany body, cream body binding, a gorgeous finish with a matching headstock, a mahogany set neck, abalone dot fingerboard inlays and black hardware.
  • Second, it sounds phenomenal, with dual Seymour Duncan humbucking pickups, three-way pickup switching, a push/pull coil tap switch built into the master tone control knob, and more. A decidedly no... on-traditional Telecaster of peerlessly crafted style and powerful sonic substance.

The Fender Special Edition Custom Telecaster FMT HH is kind of Fender's version of a Les Paul standard, mahogany body with real carved maple cap (not veneer), mahogany neck, two humbuckers (both Seymour Duncans that sell for $220 by themselves, with coil splitting), set neck... along with some telecaster stuff (through the body six saddle bridge, telecaster single cut body shape, although it has carves instead of the typical flat slab tele design), etc. I have been researching these for a while, and they are pretty much universally well reviewed, and for several years they were almost never in stock when selling at the $999 MSRP.

ProAudioStar has them for $599 shipped, marked as used, but I believe this is just to get around the Minimum Advertised Price rules. For other guitars marked used from PAS, I received a new guitar that still had the shipping label over the seal from being shipped from Fender to PAS. I waited until I received my order for this FMT HH before posting the deal here to see if I got a new one, and it was the same as the others, still sealed from Fender shipping to PAS. That said, there is no guaranty that no one will get a previously opened guitar, but if so and something is wrong with it, either return it, exchange it, or have Fender fix it.

The guitar I received (Amber) is perfect, setup with a kind of high action, but perfect finish, after a quick setup and tuning it plays great. I am doing a full setup now to lower the action, oil up the fingerboard and all of that, but figured I would post because the guitar is good and the serial checked out good on Fender's serial checking site and had 10/22 born date for warranty.

The amber version: https://www.proaudiostar.com/fend...-used.html

The crimson version: https://www.proaudiostar.com/fend...-used.html

The cherry burst isn't on sale, too bad as that is what I wanted, but that seems to be the most popular one and doesn't need any help to sell.

Hmm. Crafted in Indonesia. Wonder how the quality is compared to the made in mexico ones.
It's funny, I have a squier bullet strat that's made in china that has excellent fret work.
Then I have a made in mexico strat and tele that's are also excellent.
Then the american made acoustasonic tele... fret work isn't so great.
If I ever see another american strat in texas tea...
I don't think it matters much any more, and excellent ones can come from anywhere and poor ones can come from anywhere.
I'll just add again.
When it says "used" be prepared to actually get a used one. I did on the american acoustasonic telecaster deal.
I've been playing guitar for 25 years and I have never bought a new guitar. Used is just as good in my book

MIA used to be a quality bump, now it's more of a decision to support industry in your local country. I've always found the quality of MIJ models to be the highest, though I recently picked up an Affinity Strat (Indonesia) and the fit and finish is amazing. Dull pickups, crummy pickguard, assuming the hardware will blister, but the finish work is top notch. Very surprised.

The $999 regular price is misleading, as it's the regular price for a new one. Regular price for a used one is closer to $700. Still a decent deal, but absolutely nowhere near 40% off.

It's a Lovely model . I just picture it being dragged through a smokey bar leaning against the amp while beer gets spilled on it

On the bright side it is a pretty stout poly finish, not the wonderfully aging (and smelling) nitro finish that scratches if you look at it wrong... and I am not sure if you were saying it would be a pro or a con for it to get gigging wear, but if you are planning on keeping it, then imho it adds character Big Grin.

Reminds me of those old showmaster superstrats. Was always intrigued, but not enough to buy one.

I've always thought that if people cared solely for craftsmanship, fujigen would have put fender out of business. Agree on your mij point. Nicest guitar I've owned was a mij 72 thinline

I have one and it's vastly superior to the Mexican Torino Red one I have. It's the one loaded with DiMarzios. That being said the Mexican Strat I have is a fine fine instrumernt. This is on par with my '94 US Std Strat but not as good as my '96 Bonnie Raitt.

Funny you bring that up! First I found out about these tele HHs, then I found out about the showmasters. I actually wanted a showmaster over this tele because I wanted a trem... but they aren't made anymore and none of the used ones I have seen for a while now are that magic combo of price & condition (eg all original without nasty gashes, etc.). Still on the lookout though, I would love to have the pair! I only decided to jump on this tele given the good deal at PAS (I found it on Reverb since PAS posts a lot of their sales there too)... still have a search for a showmaster though!

An MIJ is on my bucket list, it might be the only origin for Fender I have yet to play with.
Other things I have that are MIJ have been excellent (my Takamine that I picked up via another deal like 10 years ago is amazing: https://slickdeals.net/e/5771022-takamine-pro-series-solid-cedar-top-electric-acoustic-guitars-with-ct4b-preamp-685-after-coupon?p=56587170, my Zojirushi rice maker, etc. Big Grin).

Do it! MIJ is by far the best build quality of any Fender. Fender Japan is just licensing the fender name and logo from FMIC, but they are a separate company. I've always been tempted by the MIJ HH Boxer Tele.

I am in the middle of the setup so grabbed a pic... no Used stamp on the one I got, attached. I also opened up the control cavity and it is a nice hi quality build... shielded cavity and cover, full sized alpha pot, nice soldering with all wires tidied up, etc... very nice!
Pic is of the unit you got from proaudiostar? Very tempted to pull the trigger

Yup! I finished the setup, no problems or buzzing after lowering the action, happy with the new guitar they sent me.

I picked up the recent PAS deal on the Squier Contemporary Strat. It's my most played guitar right now. I have multiple US made Fenders and Gibsons looking on in jealousy. I have the Contemporary Tele (bought used) and absolutely love it too.

It's got aftermarket Seymour Duncans, so it's a good value. Mahogany body makes it a Gibson-y Fender, which is definitely the type of tone you get from it.

Indonesia is known for "technologically-advanced" guitar manufacturing; apparently Indonesian guitar manufacturers specifically have souped-up their factories with a lot of computer-controlled machinery, allowing for a very consistent quality of manufacturing with less variability. All the plants are increasing in quality. China is reaching where Ind. used to be, Ind. is reaching where SK used to be, SK is reaching where Japan used to be, etc. Fender's Ensenada, MX facility has always been uncannily good. I'm not sure how their quality is sustaining these days, or how Indonesia stacks up against it, but I do know that some of the nicest guitars in the $600-900 range today are coming out of Indonesia (in my opinion).

EDIT: Maybe $400-800 range...somewhere in there. Midrange stuff, lots of good guitars coming from Ind.
