Available Colors:About this Product:
  • An exquisite high-end Telecaster experience awaits the player who gets his hands on a Special Edition Custom Telecaster FMT HH. First, it looks phenomenal, with a carved flame maple top on a mahogany body, cream body binding, a gorgeous finish with a matching headstock, a mahogany set neck, abalone dot fingerboard inlays and black hardware.
  • Second, it sounds phenomenal, with dual Seymour Duncan humbucking pickups, three-way pickup switching, a push/pull coil tap switch built into the master tone control knob, and more. A decidedly no... on-traditional Telecaster of peerlessly crafted style and powerful sonic substance.
Good Deal?

The Fender Special Edition Custom Telecaster FMT HH is kind of Fender's version of a Les Paul standard, mahogany body with real carved maple cap (not veneer), mahogany neck, two humbuckers (both Seymour Duncans that sell for $220 by themselves, with coil splitting), set neck... along with some telecaster stuff (through the body six saddle bridge, telecaster single cut body shape, although it has carves instead of the typical flat slab tele design), etc. I have been researching these for a while, and they are pretty much universally well reviewed, and for several years they were almost never in stock when selling at the $999 MSRP.

ProAudioStar has them for $599 shipped, marked as used, but I believe this is just to get around the Minimum Advertised Price rules. For other guitars marked used from PAS, I received a new guitar that still had the shipping label over the seal from being shipped from Fender to PAS. I waited until I received my order for this FMT HH before posting the deal here to see if I got a new one, and it was the same as the others, still sealed from Fender shipping to PAS. That said, there is no guaranty that no one will get a previously opened guitar, but if so and something is wrong with it, either return it, exchange it, or have Fender fix it.

The guitar I received (Amber) is perfect, setup with a kind of high action, but perfect finish, after a quick setup and tuning it plays great. I am doing a full setup now to lower the action, oil up the fingerboard and all of that, but figured I would post because the guitar is good and the serial checked out good on Fender's serial checking site and had 10/22 born date for warranty.

The cherry burst isn't on sale, too bad as that is what I wanted, but that seems to be the most popular one and doesn't need any help to sell.

Hmm. Crafted in Indonesia. Wonder how the quality is compared to the made in mexico ones.
It's funny, I have a squier bullet strat that's made in china that has excellent fret work.
Then I have a made in mexico strat and tele that's are also excellent.
Then the american made acoustasonic tele... fret work isn't so great.
If I ever see another american strat in texas tea...
I don't think it matters much any more, and excellent ones can come from anywhere and poor ones can come from anywhere.
I'll just add again.
When it says "used" be prepared to actually get a used one. I did on the american acoustasonic telecaster deal.
I've been playing guitar for 25 years and I have never bought a new guitar. Used is just as good in my book

Two points to make
1) I'm a headstock snob through and through. I admit it. If my guitar doesn't say MIA or MIJ I think it's crap. I bought this thinking I could tool around on it and sell it in a few months. I gotta say this thing is crazy nice and the fit and finish is nicer than my American pro ii tele I just got from Adorama. It's just absolutely perfect and sounds incredible. Really digging the fretboard radius too since it's different from my other 5 guitars

2) anyone looking at this don't get discouraged, just because it's out of stock today it may pop back up in stock tomorrow. That happened to me I thought I missed the deal and was all bummed and then it came back the next day, so make sure to check if you want one

An even cooler observation. I ran the serial number of my guitar and it was produced in October of 2022. Three months old!

Just wanted to add to previous positive comments. My amber version arrived today 2 days after ordering. It looks stellar in person and the flame top is more vibrant and beautiful than the stock photos. Glad I got the amber version as it really shows off the nice wood grain on the back of the neck as well. Laurel fretboard has nice subtle variations in color and looks just as good or better than any rosewood I've had. Most importantly it plays and sounds fantastic...it's a different vibe than my Gibson Les Paul standard, but really sustains well and resonates loud acoustically. Pickups are great too. I haven't done any setup yet, but it's pretty much ready to go out of the box other than minor setup tweaks to player preference.

For those who are concerned about the stated "used" condition...mine also came factory sealed in new condition and my serial number is also from October 2022. Clearly there must be some overstock and they're clearing inventory while not violating minimum advertised pricing. I bought another "used" guitar from them about a year ago (Schecter Nick Johnson model) and it was also new and sealed in the factory box.

Bottom line...this is a smoking deal.
