Here are major differences between the Fenix 6 versions..

First is size:

Garmin Fenix 6S: The smallest model, features a 1.2-inch screen, 42mm case size, and a 20mm band

Garmin Fenix 6: The standard model, features a 1.3-inch screen, 47mm case size, and a 22mm band

Garmin Fenix 6X: The largest model, features a 1.4-inch screen, 51mm case size, and a 26mm band

Second is the version type:

Base version: No Wi-Fi, maps, or onboard music; Gorilla Glass lens; and 64MB of storage

There is no base version of the Fenix 6X.

Pro version: Built-in Wi-Fi, maps, and music; Gorilla Glass lens, and 32GB of storage

Sapphire Pro version: All of the features of the Pro version with a stronger sapphire crystal lens

Pro Solar version: All of the features of the Pro version with a Power Glass lens, capable of solar charging
this is probably the best deal i have seen for a 6x sapphire.

The sapphire screen is worth it. I have been using 5s Sapphire and now after 2.5 years of every single day use/training , its started to shut down for no reason. Its time for me to upgrade.

Also costco has 6 Pro Solar for 380. Its not Sapphire though.
I highly recommend this watch if you want to track your fitness. I got the 6X Pro and love it.

100% - I own this watch for about 18 months now and it is awesome - I just can confirm what Stephen is saying - good synopsis.

Also, IMHO the "Solar" models are not worth any extra money. The solar does not fully charge, but just adds a little to the battery - maybe 10%, but not enough to prevent them from draining. I think this is a feature that Garmin is testing at the cost of consumers - maybe it works better on the Fenix 7, but on the 6 - "no thank you".
Solar on fenix7 is better; battery life also better but not worth the extra $$ at this time. have 6S & love it.

For year round running, touch screen is a pain—taking off gloves, getting sweat and rain on it. I switched back to only buttons and feel that's a better choice for MN running
Agree 100%.
Was hiking grand canyon; with gloves/snow/etc, PITA with apple/samsung watches. Took few hikes to get used to buttons on Garmin but absolutely love it. Also, love garmin's non touchscreen, MIP display in bright light; apple & samsung not so nice in bright outdoors. got 6s sapphire (have smaller wrist) from AMZN for 330; love it. Just swapped out the strap for a Moko, <10$, perfect setup! (have had apple & samsung watches & Mi bans 7 Pro etc, but love this one the most)

Dam, no love for the 6S.
Love my 6S, sapphire; tiny strap though, so got a better strap from Moko on AMZN although Garmin also shipped a bigger one, on gently requesting for free (as many have posted on Reddit & garmin forums re 6S strap).

I think the 6x Sapphire is the same as the 6x pro with sapphire screen?
correct

I did research on getting the Fenix 6 over the last few months and ended up getting the forerunner 955 instead. Newer model, touch screen, faster response, about the same battery life, more updates. With your healthcare you can get 20% off which is real nice so $400 for a 955
Where did you get the 20% off? Garmin?

Guy already paid as much for the Fenix 7 but complained not bright enough so instead of getting 7 shoulda got epix 2 for same price.

And a nearly $1000 price tag, depending on the version

Anyone who has this, do you not want touch screen? It's holding me back as I'm used to the Vivoactive
The question is how much you will navigate maps on watch. Zoning in and out and panning map is a process on this. Otherwise I far prefer buttons to a touchscreen.

The 6X Sapphire and the 6X (Pro) are identical other than the watch face. So it's just a trade between cost and durability. I went for the gorilla glass version as (i) saved $100 over this price and (ii) my other 'outdoor' watch is a Casio G-Shock (with standard mineral glass face) and it has been beaten and abused for 10 years and has no scratches at all on the face (the bezel is a different story).

So, you are very unlikely to scratch the gorilla glass face, much more likely to scratch up the bezel. And if it's impacts you're concerned about, sapphire is actually more vulnerable. Also, sapphire glass has a higher refractive index, meaning you'll see more reflections and the face won't look as "clear" (although only to a minor extent),

I know three people who have had the 6S / 6 / 6X since they came out - none of them have a scratch on their watch faces.

I know Blue Cross Blue Shield has a Blue365 program that gets you 20% off most any product they have. And yeah the 955 is an amazing value if you do not need ruggedness of Fenix frame. All the tech of a Fenix 7 in a lighter package at a lower price

In for one, feeling tempted by the discussion here.
Still, it is hard to believe this 2019 watch would be not-too-slow in 2023...
Going to give it a try.
For what it's worth, I'm using the Fenix 3 HR that came out in 2016. Still not too slow today. These watches can last a LONG time

This is a great watch and the fit is much improved compared to the Fenix 5 series. Comfortable to wear even with a 7 inch wrist size.

Garmin has been generous with software updates including pushing the new HRV status feature from the Fenix 7.

I have the pro solar and get easily 2 weeks of battery life with 2 hours of GPS runs every day even in the winter.

Two thumbs up.
