HODL!!! DO NOT PURCHASE, WAIT!!

S21 and S22 gen had slow sales - hence the last few crazy Samsung trade promo at BB - I got s22u for my s21u and $26 out of pocket. I'm sure folks who had the flip 3s did much better.

Samsung.com at one point valued the s20u only $50 less than s21u. And don't even mention the cracked screen deals - some time they traded at the same value as not cracked.

It will be really interesting to see what happens with the s23 lineup. Especially at BB.
Thats what im thinking to do this time. Got my last two Samsungs at release. However, this time i would be switching from s21 to s23. Do you still think its better to wait rather than trade in at start in my case?

I had pixel 1, 2, 3 and liked them all. Got a 6 pro and the modem was bad, got it replaced at launch before we knew the modem was bad in all of them and replacement was still bad. The selfie camera is terrible compared to the pixel 3. Fingerprint reader is not good. Basically all the major complaints people had, I had. After 4ish months of bugs and delayed updates Google did an update that killed my battery life. I had to charge twice a day, that was it for me. Bought a s22u and haven't had any major issues. Google is turning it's version of Android into iOS with limited ability to customize, Samsung you can do so much more with your phone. If it was just one of those things I'd probably stick with the pixels but they are just lacking in so many areas that it just feels like a bad phone.
This is good to hear. I've been a Google fanboy for years, only using Nexus/Pixel phones going back to the Galaxy Nexus. But Google lost me with the 6 Pro primarily because of the crappy modem. I'm about ready to throw my 6 Pro out the window with how many times I have to toggle airplane mode on/off EVERY SINGLE DAY. The S23 Ultra can't come fast enough.

FYI, my s22 ultra is known as the pocket destroyer. Everytime it comes put of my pocket it takes the pocket with it and my pocket has to be flipped back in, and when I shove it back in the size and silicone case grip like crazy and have ruined 3 pairs of jeans over the past year by eventually ripping a hole in the pocket.
Sounds like you're being really violent with your pants.

Leaks show it'll be more of the same.

New to the Samsung ecosystem, here - I thought the best trade-in deals were right at launch of the new series, no? Or is that true, but with the quick price drop it's still a better deal overall to wait till midyear?
Depends on the year really. Trade-ins at launch used to be really good but they seem to have gone downhill the last couple of years. Best Buy trade-ins have been outstanding lately. I traded my S21 in for an S22+ for $0, plus got a $200 gift card.

I always find if you wait a few months, the deals get too good to ignore.I dropped my S21 and upgraded to an S22 ultra with a trade in deal I still paid less than 200 for total.
I did the same for my s22 ultra last year, waited few months and they were on great deal

Going for the S23U. A highly respected YouTube reviewer changed my mind about keeping the Fold4. The narrowness of the main screen is a real problem
https://youtu.be/90FXcN2Ye5U

Howver, he gives the folding screen high points for build quality and durability.

Have to agree. I'm sticking with my Note 20 Ultra, then someday I'll buy whatever brand has an SD card, big screen, and whatever other features I want. I don't really care what brand it is.
I used to upgrade every single year since the Note 2 (skipped only the Note 5 b/c of the removal of the SD card slot). But like you I also am reluctant to lose MST, SD card, etc.., in moving on from the Note 20 Ultra. As a result, I planned to keep this phone indefinitely and did not plan to upgrade until it was on its last legs. However, I have Verizon and unfortunately I've learned the Note 20 Ultra does NOT access some of the C-Band signals for 5G.

It's a crying ass shame, but I get lackluster 5G service where I live right now with the Note 20 Ultra even though I reside in a major metropolitan area. And when Verizon finishes its retrofitting of all the towers they've recently purchased to improve its mid-band 5G service nationwide, unfortunately I'll be screwed on that service and left out if I don't upgrade to a newer phone.

Good luck finding a high end (even mid tier) phone with expandable storage. Value phones are really the only ones left with SD card support.

IMHO: there is no benefit to have galaxy phone over any other, unless you like the UX/UI look and feel.

No more sdcard, audio jack, samsung pay MST (pay using non-nfc old terminals). It's like any other phone with preloaded and sometimes imposible to delete samsung crappy apps (yes, you can disable them).
Over ANY other? Depends on what you're looking for in a phone. If you want a great camera, decent trade value, guaranteed OS updates for 4-5 years, then Pixel, Galaxy, and iPhone are the only ones in the running. There are a couple other phones with good cameras, but are lacking in other areas.
