According to Tom's, the 6950XT edges out the 4070 Ti if you're not using ray tracing or DLSS. The 4070 has a healthy lead with ray tracing though.

I feel in a couple months these prices will drop even more. 4070ti is not selling the 7900xt isn't selling nor is the 4080. I'd wait and let these companies know we aren't crypto miners with unlimited funds.

you can run this on a lower wattage psu easily. They just say that to account for the absolute worst power supplies.

My 7900 is using 16.37gb on the COD 2 benchmark at 1440p. It's slightly higher at 4k. Sure I could dial back settings but why it's still running faster than my monitor refreshes. 12gb is enough your right, but imo it's pretty lacking for today's games and moving forward in those price ranges. My 695xt used 12.53gb of vram on the same settings fyi guys.
Example, my 4090 uses 10.5 at 4K on warzone 2

Which 6800 would you recommend for that price? Have a link? I would be totally fine with a 6800 and looking to score one in the next week or so. 🙂

12gb vram is plenty for any resolution, you have no clue what you're talking about.

This 6950 is a fine card but the 4070 ti will crush it with frame generation.
You conveniently neglected to address part of my statement "...NVIDIA will enjoy it when people feel compelled to upgrade because they don't have the VRAM to run high/ultra textures or mods in the years to come."

If you're saying 12GB of VRAM is enough for maxed out 4k gaming today, I agree (for 99% of use cases). However, for $800-950, I'd like to realistically get 4+ years out of my GPU without VRAM issues. Several games currently recommend and use 10GB of VRAM for 4k + ray tracing today. This includes 2021 releases like Far Cry 6, which I've seen push up to 11GB on 4k ultra + ray tracing. I'm not sure why you're defending an $800-950 product that gives you 12GB of VRAM in 2023.

Using it and needing it isn't the same thing. Just looking at what's be currently used isn't a great indicator.

I used a 10gb 3080 at 4K for a couple years without worrying about vram.
Yea adjusting for performance (to see how many frames I could get) I was using 7gb. I'm not disagreeing with ya, you're right I don't have to. I also don't need a card that runs faster than my monitor on max settings, but then again I kinda did 😝 6950xt is a great card(699)4070 is a hundred more than this deal(799) Ehhh I think it's good discussion which is better value.

It depends on your settings. Max it out for quality and it'll shoot up a lot.

This is questionable logic. If the games are using that much VRAM then it is because they see some benefit in doing so. You don't know how much your card would have benefited if it had 16GB of memory like it's competition. Admittedly it likely isn't too much but still, I don't want to be leaving any performance off the table due to memory capacity on my $900 GPU. 16GB is better for future proofing

I bought this last month for 800 and am feeling salty af now, but it was a great deal regardless. Only complaint is the coil whine at full tilt. 2 free games really make it even more enticing though. Dead Island 2 aint out till april so you wont get the key for another month or so. Gaming at 1440p (with 7700x & 32gb - thanks MC!) maxes out the 240hz monitor sometimes.

Allocation=/=usage. It's been discussed numerous times. COD's in-game overlay only displays VRAM allocations not actual usage. You can even find in the settings doc that describes that it is the "target VRAM to be used". The default value is somewhere 80% and that's precisely why you see 16GB(20GBx80%) with 7900 XT and 12GB(16gbx80%) with 6950 XT.

There are literally only a handful of games that I can count with one hand that actually use 12GB VRAM at 4K. Plus DLSS and FSR/RSR being a thing lately VRAM is hardly a bottleneck for any modern cards at its designed-for resolution. For any regular crowd that's has 8GB 3060ti/3070 or 6650XT at 1440P, you are perfectly fine waiting for the next generation.

Because this is miles better than the 4070ti

Sir, "edging out some performance wins in specific scenarios" does not qualify as miles better.

For $100, the 4070ti would gain:

DLSS and usable RT performance
Similar 1400p/4k performance across most titles
100w less peak power usage
Hardware encoder (NVENC) for content creators

I love AMD products, but being objective is important. The 4070ti is a much better product.
