They are suggesting a method to game the warranty system, not adjust the price.
You game the warranty system by buying early when the price is higher, before the extended CC warranty benefit ends. Then, you go back later, when the price is lower to get a price adjustment to the lower price, but maintaining your original purchase date when the CC warranty benefits were still in effect.

The post I was referencing stated that a price adjustment will result in a return and new purchase date, which is incorrect.

While I don't disagree with your premise, I do disagree with your examples. I just bought plenty of after-Christmas overstock at Walmart for 50%, then 75%, and finally 90% off yesterday.
Sure, there are still some seasonal deals – especially on years like this where buyers didn't forsee slowing demand due to falling consumer sentiment and a pending recession – but unless you pounce right away it ain't like it used to be in the early 2000s. Back then you could just walk into any big box store and have a huge selection of good stuff immediately after any holiday. Anything from high ticket items to seasonal food in large selections at 75%-90% off within a week of a holiday. Now you have to be a lot quicker for the online sales and what's left at retail is mostly random junk that people didn't want and it takes a lot longer to get down to the 75%-90% off price level.

Deals are still out there but you have to hunt harder and harder for them every year and the higher the item price is the less likely you are to find any kind of overstock or model-year-end clearance deal these days.

All the major chains have switched to a "just in time" fulfillment method where they have sales forecasters predict exactly how much they'll need and then send the stores only what they need for the next couple of weeks. Walmart and Costco don't buy in massive bulk and have big warehouses full of stuff sitting around, they have what's in the store and that's it.
I think you are wrong on that one. "just in time" been around and for stuff that don't need to stock and have reliable constant supply. Anything else that isn't reliable, business would try to stock up and they over stock and easily go on clearance.

Business have lots of accountant to make sure they streamline to boost profit. They'll make it as efficient as possible and reduce waste. I love those greedy business making the best of everything.

LMAO that's not how it works any more. Haven't you noticed that there are fewer and fewer post-seasonal clearances every year? That the big 75% off after Christmas decorations sales at Target and Walmart are a thing of the past?

Walmart and Costco don't buy in massive bulk and have big warehouses full of stuff sitting around, they have what's in the store and that's it.

That's what caused all the weird shortages of stuff like toilet paper at the beginning of the pandemic. All the stores and their suppliers only had enough and were only making enough to support normal buying habits. When people's buying habits changed due to being in lockdown the system couldn't react fast enough because retailers would rather sell out and NOT have an item to sell to someone at full price than take the chance that they would have a big warehouse full of excess inventory that they have to sell at a loss.

You are correct that the discounting isn't coming from the retailer as they don't have warehouses full. The discount would be coming from the manufacturer as they have panel and other parts already made and need to be assembled and moved.

Agreed! I sure do miss the good old days! Even Goodwill in my area is picked clean. Unless you are there when they roll out the new items, forget about it.

Just sharing my Costco experience from last year if anyone is somewhat disappointed with this Super Bowl pricing. It had been a few years since I had made a purchase for a large, more expensive TV for our den (where we primarily watch movies and sports). After asking around a bit, and checking forums, quite a few people told me that the new TV models come out around May timeframe and that often they use the Super Bowl sale to clear out this year's model and that "now" was the time to jump on a TV because when the new models came out, there wouldn't be any deals for a while and there wouldn't be enough stock of old TVs to really deal on. So, I picked up a Sony 75" X90J during Costco's sale using my Costco CC to maximize the warranty for about $1599 plus tax. After purchasing, I can say that there were at least 5 times that I know of where the price was anywhere from $100 cheaper to $400 cheaper (at Costco or other reputable retailers) including several times where the X90K (newer 2022-2023 model) was actually cheaper. In hindsight, if I'd have had it to do over, I'd have used the Costco Super Bowl sale pricing as a guide and I would have waited on purchasing until I got a better deal.

Is the C2 better than the A80 for movie viewing ? They both look incredible in the store.

It's fine for you to think that, but I've been working with suppliers for most of the big national chains in North America for the last decade and the way our fulfillment contracts with those companies are structured has changed. We've gone from a small number of giant orders based on what they think they'll sell in a 3-6 month period to lots and lots of smaller ones shipped to regional distribution hubs to meet demand.

From their perspective they spend slightly more per unit since they're not buying in huge bulk but they make it up by not being on the hook to clearance large amounts of poor-selling items if their buyers messed up and made the wrong predictions.

Yeah, that's not how it works. We don't have the factories make huge amounts of crap to leave sitting around in a warehouse just to keep them busy. The pipeline is set up so that we make product based on soft commits from retailers. Occasionally those soft commits fall through and don't turn into orders but that's pretty rare these days and we never make more than we need because we also don't want to deal with warehousing excess inventory and trying to find buyers to sell product to at a loss.

So is it only the credit card extended warranty that is dropping later this month?
Yes, Citi is dropping their extra 2 years if bought on their card. Costco will still offer the additional year warranty and then you can buy their extended warranty if you wish.

Thanks for posting this info early. I was waiting for this SB sale to grab a C2 but prices are blah and I'll have to wait.

I was hoping for a better deal on the LG C2 77". Oh well, I probably should wait a few months more anyway.
You are correct this sale is no better than when Costco sold the 77 inch for $2,499 last year for a 2022 model.
This is 2023 and the price will be the same as last year.
Costco along with LG have had this set from $2,499 to $2,699 to $2,799 back to $2,699 and now back starting Jan. 22nd to $2,499.
Consumers need to be aware when a deal is really great and not so great! THIS DEAL IS NOT SO GREAT FOR AN OLDER MODEL SET!

It's even worse than that. There's no additional warranty from using the credit card starting 1/22/23.
Has anyone actually ever even used that benefit? I have it on like six of my cards, never have used it lol, and I have like 10 TV's and a dozen laptops, six iPads lol 😂
