I'm not sure I'd use the term audiophile but I definitely dabble, and i would not "snub my nose" at this. Used appropriately and with proper expectations this could add much needed low end to your living room movie night. Very easy to get $50 worth of "utility" out of something like this if you treat it with care, in my opinion.

I have this sub from the previous sale. I have it hooked to an echo input and two stereo paired round echo dot 4s all in a group. Works great in a small room for amazon prime music.

You can't just fork the RCA "line in" cables to go to both the soundbar and the subwoofer. You need to have only the low frequencies go to the subwoofer. They sell in-line "mixers" that will split the frequencies so that low go to sub and rest go to soundbar, but sound quality will be reduced and by the time you're done buying the extra equipment and setting it up, you're better off buying a new soundbar (or better still, getting a cheap used AV receiver and doing a low-end 2.1 speaker setup)

If you have a receiver, then a sub like will plug right in, no fuss.
Many soundbars used to have a sub out. Then they ditched them in favor of wireless forcing you to use theirs. Some of the smaller ones that didn't come with a sub often had them giving you the ability to expand its capabilities. It should be prerequisite on smaller ones solds as "built in subwoofer".

Yes, if it's powered it has a built in amp.

What is the theoretical connections for tv no reciever? Tv to hdmi soundbar then tv rca to rca sub? I feel like rca out on soundbar is not too common Frown

You need more info. If you already have a soundbar how is it connected to the tv. If your soundbar doesn't have a sub out you're pretty much SOL unless your TV and soundbar has an analog/rca Jack then you could arguably split the signal and have it go into the sub. But that's not ideal.

If I want to hook this up to a Yamaha sound bar, is that possible? Sound bar has a single 'subwoofer out' port but doesn't seem clear where I would connect to this sub? Sorry not an audiophile at all!

Yes, just use a normal composite type cable, which is RCA to RCA.
