Thanks……I have been looking for this…..I have it on DVD….and wanted the Blu-ray version of these, in Dolby Atmos. I prefer the theatrical versions. Now waiting for the Hobbit trilogy. (I already own one of them, but will buy all three, if the price is right.)

I read a few articles about the remaster and they're all about how it was remastered for 4K. I'm trying to understand the benefits of such a remaster on this standard Blu-ray as opposed to 4K UHD Blu-ray. Color grading changes? Audio changes?

Edit: Oh, OK, the linked Blu-ray.com review has some specific info (they need to work on their SEO, apparently). What I got is:
- "new Dolby Atmos mix"
- "some of the color grading is different"
- "occasionally excessive use of digital noise reduction"
- "decent to moderate upgrades over the previous Blu-ray editions"

The 4K versions are such a massive upgrade, I couldn't imagine watching them any other way now. To call the 4K ones a night & day difference is an understatement. The HDR on them is amazing. If you have a 4K HDR TV, this is a waste of money.

People who didn't read the books and don't have to see little unnecessary nods to the books that added screen time to an already long runtime.

Assuming it is a reasonable remastering, I am sure this is an upgrade in picture quality from my DVD three movies I prior bought years ago…….and although the sound is very good on my DVD with DTS…….I am pretty sure the Dolby Atmos is an upgrade (I think the DVD's have Dolby ES and one has DTS EX, I think). I am still using my Oppo standard bluray player, so, although, I am pretty sure the 4K version may be better….for me, this may be as good as it gets. I expect this will be a better experience than watching the compressed version via streaming. I tried a high end 4K player, but could not justify the cost of the player, the additional cost of the discs, and less features on the player. It seems these Blu-ray discs are at least half, if not 1/3 the cost of the equivalent 4K blu-rays most of the time.

4K UHD discs do seem to be coming down - I think we saw several $6 sales this past holiday season, maybe even some $5. But I feel you. Even pre-4K, I was searching eBay for the few remaining new DVD (and then Blu-ray) players that still had features that were being dropped from newer players.

Am I correct in assuming that this does not come with the digital version? I did not see it listed on the Amazon page……but, while trying out a 4K player, I recently bought some 4K disks that did not specify, and I was surprised to find an included promo code for the digital version inside the box.
