This company Hi-Rez Studios has no creativity and just cashes in on the latest fad... first with Paladins (Overwatch knockoff), then Smite (MOBA), now this Smash clone. They can't even come up with their own unique characters/IP.
smite existed before paladins and its the most successful third person moba, but your not wrong about them trend following.
this looks like it's always a free to play game. There are thousands out there, why is this one front page?
I'm sure whoever saw it from staff noticed it wasn't part of the rotation and didn't do their research to know this is free to play. Lots of keywords with these people. If they see it's Epic Games, they know free games will drop every Thursday so it MUST be on the front page
I agree that this needs to be taken down from front page. To quote many people here.. "Very misleading"

it also wasn't free to play until recently. There was an alpha buy-in for 25$ for a few weeks. Unsure if that will come back or not.
As far as I know, you can't link accounts and progress between platforms (I tired the Epic Games version and it started from scratch; a few weeks ago I played the Steam version and made some progress, so I went with that). Apparently, all the characters can be unlocked without paying, but I have no idea how long that might take.

This has been free since launch and the entire developers plans were never to charge for the game. This is not a slickdeal or a deal at all, it's normal price for eternity.
You pay for in app purchases.
With that said, good game, based off of the game "Smite" which is a phenomenal DOTA type game (waaaaaay better imo)
Temporarily yes. The Steam store page says: "Free to keep when you get it during this limited-time promotion. Offer ends Monday at 10am Pacific Time." There's a lot of negative reviews that they're normally charging for the game plus microtransactions.
It seems like they will try to charge for it on Epic later too.

Yeah, I agree... I'm just venting. I got suckered into playing this on PS+ and not having done any research didn't know it was from them.
Anyhow, the camera setup, UI indicators, etc are difficult to follow -- I love Smash and the new WB Multiversus but this was just a waste of time.
You're right -- most games are derivatives of other predecessors, but I feel with Hi-Rez they don't have the polish and create mostly bland worlds like other generic F2P games based on the latest trends.
I actually enjoy this more than the other smash games like Brawhalla or Multiversus. Being able to move freely on the "map" just feels so much better and opens up different strategies compared to the other games. I don't care about the copy-cat or generic characters since they all have unique abilities and moves so far that differentiates them enough.
My main gripes would be balancing, spotty hitboxes/latency, and lack of rank mode. It's still a beta release so hopefully they get those things fixed/added. But hey, it's a free game. I ain't complaining.

While I agree for Paladins and Smite, this game is actually a "first of it's kind" as far as I know being a 3D brawler type, feel like you're short selling it frankly. I actually found it to be quite unique and enjoyable. My two cents anyhow...

Don't forget bringing tribes back to life and then dropping it for the rest of what you've mentioned

There's a big difference between the free games that Epic gives away periodically versus the Freemium business model. They aren't the same thing.

There isn't much playerbase playing the first month. So this game will die out soon.
