Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

How many thousands of dollars did it cost you to rent a Tesla for a couple weeks only to find out you didn't like it?

-Tim
A lot less than it would have if I bought one for $60,000 and then realized, a few weeks later, that I didn't like it.

Seriously tho, you can rent one on turo or getaround for like $60/day. Well worth it to me to avoid regretting a big purchase.

When is it expected for them to reincorporate radar back into their cars?
regular radar? never. terrible idea. if you've ever seen greentheonly's tweets about what data it returns, it's EXTREMELY noisy.

HD radar: i remain skeptical, but never seen the data from that sensor so we'll see. likely on the model s/x first.

So many questions on the tax portion of this....if you don't know how to do your taxes then your not going to know when you need to plug in your car.

Simply put, it does not matter how much is withheld in federal taxes, its how much the IRS will take (what you owe) from you that matters. Many people let a little go out over each paycheck so they don't get surprised or not spend money they may owe later. It's safe. Typically more is taken out than needed. Others (like me) hold onto that money so we can make money (invest). So in this case, since I never committed any money, I always "owe".

Either way, if I owe 7,500, then with this I owe 0. If I owe 10k, I instead owe 2.5k. Of I owe 5K, I owe 0, and miss out on the other 2.5k.

It just takes away a MAX of 7.5K from what you owe IRS. So your not getting money, you just do t have to pay it. Seems like your given money, especially when you prepay your taxes.

Given Musk's twitter saga and the recent news about twitter struggling for cash, I'm sure the stock price will further take a hit and if the sales dont meet market expectations , you can expect the price to further drop next Quarter
Lots of people are turned off with his off the rails behavior recently. Friend of ours decided to ditch Tesla at the end of the lease and said that was one of the reasons believe it or not. He's turning off quite a lot of his customers. She was going to get another EV but decided to just buy a used RAV4 and wait for what the market brings in a few yrs

Not sure that's correct. Believe you have to owe at least $7500 in taxes to get that full $7500 credit. So if you only owed $5000 in federal taxes, you'd only get $5000 back out of the $7500. At least, that's how I've always understood this to work historically.

Yes CORRECT!!!

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022, I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

I hope this helps,
Tofu Vic
You're in a 100% federal income tax bracket?

Carvana is also attempting to shed inventory as if they are in liquidation. Some People on YouTube follow their inventory and car max as well, and both are dumping inventory to auction in a tsunami wave. The used car market pricing is already declining, those 2 companies have such massive inventories combined and acting together they could put the used market into free fall

In order to get ke the 7500 tax credit, do I need to adjust my withholding to be greater than $7500 for year 2023.
Or if I owe less than 7500 as Tax as I withheld more taxes out of my paycheck, will I still get the full credit as refund when filing returns in 2024.
Example
My total taxes for year 23 are 10000

Option A : I reduce my withholding to 2000 and make sure I owe IRS more than 7500 as taxes. So when I file I get 7500 as credit as I now owe IRS 10,000 - 2000 = 8000

Option B : do not make any changes to withholding. So during 2024 tax filing I withheld 9000 and hence now I owe IRS 1000 as taxes. So will I still get 7500 or only 1000 ?
Option A ; you will pay 500$

option B. not sure about this. withheld 9k which is pre-pay the tax. now you have a credit of 7.5....they have to use up the credit first? and refund you what you pre-paid? so you get back 6.5k?
