Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

LOL - WTF? So much wrong here. Styling is subjective.

Have you physically seen, with your own eyes, how much storage/cargo-room a Model Y has?
Where have you been last 2 years? Mach E - EV6 - Tesla - Bolt - ID4 - show me proof they depreciated more than ICE? If anything, in the past 2 years, they actually APPRECIATED as in when you drove them off the lot you could make a few bucks immediately selling to people that didn't want to wait.

You can always wait for 'newer tech' and never actually buy anything - there will always be 'newer tech.'

After the EV9, hold out for the EV11, or the EV69 - da heck kind of logic is this.
Um just Google Ev depreciation, also any vehicle held value in the weird state of the market the last couple years. Obviously normalizing now. Stop assuming, said wait for solid state, which is on the horizon, not for every new tech. You said that, so don't put words in my mouth. Just bought a 2023 Kia Telluride SX Xpro and drove my buddies Model Y Perf for a week. Couldn't be happier I didn't go Tesla. Point is people just think gas savings but don't consider that it cost more to insure and cold weather has a bigger impact on EV range.

What if I don't owe anything in tax? If I get the refund what is the status?
You don't own anything because you prepaid estimated tax? If you didn't have an income then tax rebate does not apply to you.

This is going to drop way more. Under 50k soon. No one wants this car or to be associated with this brand. Think about that before putting your loved ones in their poorly built vehicles that are worth maybe 15k plus a 20k battery.
It's literally one of the safest cars you can buy.

I'm glad I cancelled my order in Dec. I'm ambivalent to Musk. What put me off were the pro-tesla youtube videos. The quality of the build seems hit or miss for a $60k car. They will get better, but more and more cheaper alternatives are appearing (but with long wait times).

Also check how many used Tesla cars are for sale. Might be due to bad build etc.

Owners also stated it's the best car they have owned. Is that because of the insane acceleration, which is available in most electric cars? I don't know.

A depreciating asset is not a good way to wealth, but do your research.

I'm in for one. But can someone tell me if this is a good place to store classified documents if I keep it locked in my garage? I guess, I'm confused on the whole policy in general, and just want classification.
Or WORST, intentionally take the docs home and fight the govt for not wanting to return the docs.

Which costs you $26,667 in fuel over 200k miles assuming gas at $4/gallon and 30 miles per gallon. Gas in CA is higher than that. Worth considering and I am not pro electric car for our household right now.
Well if you are in CA you probably want to think twice about having an EV when you have barely functioning power grid.

Mass evacuations due to wild fires etc must be fun with everyone fighting over the few charge stations available on the route.

My daughter is doing residency and she gets around 65k/year. I know i am not eligible. As of now she gets taxes withhold and end of year I am sure she may not owe any taxes. How do I get her to withhold taxes so that she owes 7.5k? Any help. I just placed an order for model Y. Do I register in her name ?

Also I found new one locally 100 miles away with the specs I wanted. So I ordered that one instead of doing custom order.
More than likely she will get all of 7500. I made 60k last year when i bought rooftop solar and battery, the tax credit was about 6k. I was able to get full amount of 6k. They are using the tax liabilities to deduct the credit, not how much you own or got refunded after you has filed. I have 3 kids and had so many child credit but i was still able to get full tax credit for the solar.

You could probably decrease your withholding or increase your exemptions?

For crash tests yes. But Tesla forum is riddled full of stories with owners claiming the drivetrain fails. Wouldn't be surprised if they were forced to issue a fleet wide recall for thus mess. https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/t...ar.219672/
