Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

Okay… let's toss in say $2000 in maintenance for oil changes and brakes and such. Still only $8000 savings and that's assuming you actually keep the car for 10 years to realize the savings.
You don't need to change anything in ICE car during the course of warranty other than oil comparing to Tesla. That's $400 for a normal car, and $2000 for Porsche (unless DIY which brings it back to $400).

What tesla fanbois don't like to admit is that tesla's maintenance schedule is pretty much the same as any ICE car other than oil change.

Brake fluid health check every 2 years (replace if necessary).
A/C desiccant bag replacement every 6 years.
Cabin air filter replacement every 2 years.
Clean and lubricate brake calipers every year or 12,500 miles (20,000 km) if in an area where roads are salted during winter
Rotate tires every 6,250 miles (10,000 km) or if tread depth difference is 2/32 in (1.5 mm) or greater, whichever comes first

So electric cars don't brake? Do you realize that AWD EV has 4 engines instead of 1?
What a fortunate misspelling; electric cars barely brake with conventional friction brakes as they have regenerative braking.

Also, most AWD EV's have 2 electric motors, but there is a mixture of 2, 3, and 4 motors out there. The Model 3/Y AWD are 2 motors.

Not sure why you are arguing so adamantly when it is obvious you know little of the vehicles.

This was in reference to how the Tesla is so much better to drive. What you're referring to is my point… Lexus and Honda are solid so why spend more than an Accord to buy a Tesla?
The ICE to EV driving experience. That's why. It's like going from flip to smartphone, esp if you drive a ton. I've literally saved hours of my life charging up at home vs going 1-2x a week to a gas station because I drive 16K+ miles a year for work. Also no need for oil/filter/water pump/timing belt appointments etc. Autopilot as well

Now when I get back into an ICE car, I sometimes leave it running because dammit a car should know to turn on when you get inside with a key Wink

So figure 12k miles a year average. At your example rate that's $600 if you only charge at home. ICE car with 30 mpg at $3/gallon gas is $1200. So just as you said, 50% savings. $600 savings per year. So even if you drive the car 10 years you've only saved $6000 in gas… not enough to justify the cost increase from a similarly equipped ICE car.
Don't pay electric, over generate solar & never step foot in a greasy gas station. Winning?

I was giving them the benefit of the doubt figuring in a couple of brake pad replacements and coolant flush just to show even then it still doesn't break even.

I wont disagree on the interior, but for the features/price/performance, Porsche will never touch that combo and they won't/can't. Tesla is capturing business where it counts because they have re-defined the driving and buying experience from the ground up. I would even argue the service experience when you consider things like mobile service and unlimited OTA updates.

If you care so much about interiors, just save up and buy a Rolls Royce Ghost or Phantom dude, will blow away any Porsche interior.
The only advantage that tesla had is straight line acceleration. Solely due to technology used. The technology was not invented by messiah Elon and is widely available for other companies which are taking their time to create decent vehicles.

Here's the first Porsche ever made. It's electric.

What kind of gas savings are we talking about when gas is $3/gallon?
Most luxury sedans require premium so closer to $4 and you are getting 20 mpg or less quite often. I pay 4-5 cents a mile to drive my S, I imagine a 3 would be even cheaper per mile

I liked it more when you were comparing sport sedans to two seater rice burners. If Tesla was as cheap as you want it to be, I wouldn't buy it. 🤌🏻

I'm still at about 93% range or also of my original at 7+ years, 125K miles. People make such a big deal about the battery when it's such a nothingburger at the end of the day. Free supercharging is nice though considering how much the network has expanded the last few years

I'm not sure if it makes sense to give the benefit of the doubt to people who seriously think that tesla doesn't require any maintenance. They obviously know nothing about cars.

If it were cheaper you wouldn't buy it? So you like wasting money… now it all makes sense why you'd buy a Tesla. Problem solved.

'straight line acceleration' or better known as 99% of regular roadway application.

Kind of embarrassing for Porsche to be hoodwinked from so much market share like that. A good segue might be if only Fisker didn't meet Hurricane Sally.
