Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

I am no Elon fanboy but Tesla is a great EV...the whole car market should crash now cars are so overpriced!
hate elon or not. he just disrupted and reset the scalping car market... you'd be a fool buying an ice car at 5-15k markup vs a cheaper ev (can be tesla, vw, ford, chevy)

you can cosign loan and still have the car in her name.. unless you're trying to scam the irs and just using wife's name for financial gains.. not saying that you're trying to do it..
lol no I don't want to scam IRS and how is it scamming if done by book. I just want to have me as primary since I get better rate discount from my employer as primary borrower.

We were anyway going to file as married filling separately this year because of our wage differences but want to know this registration gimmick before I take delivery.

So back to original question can I be primary on registration but show vehicle only under my wife's tax return since I'm filing Married filling separately for both?

Donating to charity is a write off. That reduces your taxable income. A tax credit is a dollar for dollar credit against your tax bill. If you owed $10,000 you'd now owe $2,500. If you owed $500 you'd be getting a rebate of $7,000.
This is NOT true.

If you have a $7.5k or above tax liability ---> You get the FULL $7.5k credit when you file 2023 taxes. So a $10k tax liability would reduce to $2.5k.

If your tax liability is LESS than $7.5k ---> You only get a credit amount equal to your tax liability. So if you have a tax liability of $5k, then you reduce your tax liability by $5k. You will NOT get the full $7.5k.

Someone humble me if I am wrong but this is my understanding.

Folks, please do your own research instead of taking the word of some random SD'er. If you don't understand it then it is a good opportunity to learn.

whoever buys the car is the person getting the registration. what you're doing is cheating on taxes.. you're not married .. if u were married u can both be on name n benefit the tax credit.

False, that only applies to refundable tax credits like the Earned Income Tax Credit. These EV federal tax credits are non-refundable tax credits. If you owe $500, say bye to that $7k.

i see model 3 also qualifies for 7500 tax credit. Did Model 3 performance also drop in price too?

if i had 2022 fed taxes of 10,000 and i paid 9,000 through my paychecks, do i get a 8,500 refund then if i buy a tesla which qualifies for the tax credit? assuming i made below the qualifying income limit
10,000-7500=2500 tax. 9000 paid less 2500 = 6,500 refund.

I believe if you subtract taxes and fees and the total is below $55k, then it qualifies for the tax credit if your income is also within the indicated threshold.
