Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

I received the following response from CVRP staff which stated Tesla has not applied yet.

"Hello,

Thank you for your email. Vehicle manufacturers must apply for Clean Vehicle Rebate Project (CVRP) eligibility with the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and meet a number of program requirements. If all program requirements are met, the vehicle is added to the list of eligible vehicles on our website. At this time, Tesla has not applied.

Please note: Certain plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) are only eligible for a rebate if they are purchased/leased on or after the vehicle eligibility date.

We cannot guarantee a vehicle will be approved by CARB and added to our eligible vehicle list. Therefore, if the rebate is an important factor in your decision to purchase/lease the vehicle, we recommend that you use your best judgment given the information provided on our website.

If you ordered a Tesla Model 3 and Tesla Model Y on or before March 15th, 2022 the vehicle may still be eligible for the program. If you ordered your Tesla on or after March 16th, 2022, you are no longer eligible to apply for the program.

Tesla has been in contact with the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and made this decision to remove themselves from the Clean Vehicle Rebate Project (CVRP). CARB will not be adjusting their MSRP cap to allow Tesla vehicles to qualify for the program. No exceptions can be made to this requirement. All concerns regarding the MSRP increase should be directed to Tesla.

I encourage you to visit www.driveclean.ca.gov where you can perform a search based on your vehicle type and zip code to see if there are any other incentives available to you at this time. Thank you for your investment in clean vehicle technology."

Its a game that Tesla is playing. I think once the Federal tax credit reduces to 3750 they will apply for this program.

It's non refundable.

I rather lose $250 then be stuck with a $850 payment over 60 months.

My own assessment of this deal...
- Interesting, Tesla's are cool, still, right, aren't they?
- Realize that my 20yo SUV, is getting me from A to B just fine and has actually appreciated in value the last few years 😁
- Talked self out of considering spending 50k on something I don't need = 50k saved, slickest deal ever!
Maybe the slickdeals are the friends we made along the way?

LOL - Substantial price cuts from Tesla goes to show how they've been hustling their fanboys all this time. Next up FORD and their substantially dealer marked up Mach-E, F-150 Lightning.
Yes, Telsa stock went from about $420 share to about $120.So they are discounting to bring in more $.

We're considering canceling too, not because this isn't a very slick deal or we don't like Tesla; only because we just paid off our model 3 last winter and are now finally reaping the benefits of owning a Tesla with no car payment and extremely little upkeep costs. We've been banking the savings and that's been nice, so despite this being a slick deal, not sure I want to give that up. Decisions, decisions.

It's not better and you can't get one without waiting anyway
All of my local dealers have multiple in stock. The only thing it doesn't have is a little more range and the stupid acceleration that just makes you burn through very expensive tires quickly. Everything else about the VW is better. It's built by a company that actually knows how to make cars. It also an attractive car for an SUV. The Y is the ugliest of the Tesla 4 and the quality is atrocious and you have to pay a premium just to get a color other than white. Also there is no stock on sub-55k model Ys to get the tax credit. You have to order them and that is a shit show.

Cheapest I've seen for a MYLR in my area is $38k.

Prices are slowly creeping down for a used Tesla Model 3 and model Y. I think it's finally a reflecting off of the new lower price plus the tax incentives.

I'm hoping that I can find one in the sub $35k range with low miles without FSD. I don't trust that.

After feasting on the tears of all those who got caught up in the FOMO last month and were tripping over themselves to overpay for a Tesla, I cannot believe all of the people lining up for the same beating.

Tesla needs to keep increasing deliveries every quarter and they missed the last few. Price cuts will continue and they will make sure they qualify for the federal tax incentives.

There will be more tears in March!

Not really here to debate the merits of random stuff. Just wanted to let you know that the 'apply in texas' idea wasn't plausible.
i seriously doubt hes paying property tax.. he's probably renting

I think the full 7500 tax credit will still be here. I don't think they will take that away from Tesla. Batteries are still built in America so why would they remove it.
