Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

Does it come carpet floor mats?
Yes, regular mats.
If you are interested in weatherTech or kind of high wall mats, there are some 3rd party vendors who sells for ~$200 for 5 seater (inside + frunk + trunk)

What charging items come with the car? What do I need to buy to be ready? I know I'm going to hardwire mine with 4 gauge wire and a 60 amp., I think that's what I read 🤷 ♀️. Thank you!

Picked up my MY yesterday. Ordered on the 13th with no upgrades. Unfortunately, Tesla would not let me inspect the inside of the vehicle before accepting delivery. There were a few minor things I noticed while inspecting the vehicle. The biggest issue being the passenger window making a popping sound when rolling down the window. However, it stopped doing that today.

The Tesla rep told me to log all my concerns and file a service request within 24 hours. I did that and have an appointment on Feb. 7th. Not happy that it will take them two weeks to even see the car. But I'm glad I don't have any major issues.

Build quality on my Austin built was good. Unfortunately, no matrix lights but I do have the faster Ryzen chip.

Received no additional paperwork for tax purposes

In August '22 we had a family friend tell us she ordered a Lyriq. "When did they say it could be delivered?" I asked. In October(!) she said. Of course she has no Lyriq.

It looks like an amazing value for the price. But I'm sticking with Tesla for now.
Almost pointless to compare Tesla to Cadillac/GM that you can't purchase right now.
I tried to preorder the Blazer SS and they have me on an email list where they send updates. Has been months and no updates or timelines at all. Sounds like won't be able to get Lyriq or Blazer until 2024 LMAO

They seem to pop up in inventory every once in a while. Some due to the rare builds and others cancelled orders.

One of the 4680 battery model Y's is showing available in Austin right now. Lower range/cost. Pearl paint and turbine wheels under the $55k cap with the price reduction on the 4680 model though.

edit:
Somebody bought it.
Still looks like it's available.
Also right now in St Louis is a base base awd for $50,990.

Comparing any other vehicle with Tesla leaves me wonder how good other cars are when it comes to auto pilot. I am big fan of Tesla safety when you can relax and enjoy the long drive with just a click.
This is where the removal of radar concerns me. If I am buying a Tesla it's only for the autopilot to help me during my long drives and commute. Recent test drive of a model y with pure vision was not showing about 60% of vehicles and pedestrians (specifically when a big truck or semi is in front). It was not like this with the radars

So the adapter, is that what we use to charge at the Tesla chargers?

So jealous of you guys that got the Standard Range Model Y and are able to get the discounts! So cheap!

These discounts deeply reduced the value of my '21 Model 3 else I would have traded that in.

(I'm not a fan of Tesla leadership / service, but love everything about the car).

Sports cars?

its a 4 door family sedan.

you also have no idea how weight distribution works. Statistically VAG sells the most 4 door "performance" sedans but they put the engine beyond the front wheels for extremely poor handling, it results in something called "understeer". If you watch top gear once youll probably hear the term. This is the opposite of oversteer.

Tesla you can oversteer quite easily with the 600hp, and it costs $30,000 less than a BMW with the same horsepower (+fuel +BMW M service/maintenance which costs as much as a porsche 911 does to maintain)

The Tesla is basically an iphone, it just works.
I get it... you simply cannot accept that there is any criticism possible with this car. I've driven a lot of cars, and I enjoy carving up turns on twisty country roads, and the two Teslas I drove aren't great at that. Doesn't mean they're bad cars, it means they aren't much fun on twisty roads. And Tesla tells you jack about their car performance except 0-60 and top speed.

No, it's to use when u want to charge Tesla at a non-Tesla charger station... that's how I understood.

Does any manufacturer tell you a car's performance on twisty roads? What is the metric? 😄
