Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

The Model 3 and Y have made steady improvements in noise reduction. They are much better than they were 2 or 3 years ago.

I have rented Model 3s a handful time. Some have noticable wind noise on the driver's side. It sounded like the window was not completed closed but it was.

I would not be surprised if some of the Model Y owners also reported cabin noises from wind or road. It might be part of the quality control issues.

Regardless, I still enjoyed driving Teslas for its handling and driving dymanics.Applause

As I am an owner of 2022 MY, I can say MY ride is a bit firm and stiff than my BMW X5 and Acura MDX. However, my wife and I still choose MY over Acura, Lexus and BMW for driving dynamic, Agility, handling, Torque and quietness of cabin.

I still do not understand why so many ppl complain about the MY cabin noise.
It is not the quietest car but it is not loud either. Just about the same as others like, Acura, Lexus and BMW. Maybe I got the all lemon cars before from those mfg.

Same here. I had Model 3s with very noticable wind noise. But I think they should be covered by the warranty and can be addressed with a service call though.

tesla does many things well, cabin noise is not one of them

type of suspension they use + frameless doors cause a whole lot of cabin noise, tho cabin noise isn't as much of an issue as wind noise

on my model y, the wind noise is absolutely atrocious above 50mph

it's nothing even close to the low noise level of lexus, it's probably closer to acura's cabin noise but with wind noise coming in more

if you think it's just me, do a quick google of "tesla model y wind noise" and there are tons and tons of threads about it

We have an early Model 3 (2018) and had to have it serviced for noise twice. Not the wind noise I think people are describing here; but shaking, squeaking, and rattling noises. It was super annoying when it happened, and it didn't start until we were out of warranty.

That said, we still love the vehicle and considering it was one of the first batches of the model 3, we weren't too surprised with the handful of quality issues we experienced.

Many people are saying they have additional booking done, so can we book it now but deny to go ahead by losing $250 booking fee? If so till when we can hold the booking before denying delivery?
if you pick up the car at Tesla (not sure about touch-less delivery), you could literary reject the car after inspection, and if you choose to wait for another car, your booking fee goes toward the other vehicle instead.

YES, now I understand why so many ppl complain for the wind noise. I just have not had the experiences. I guess I am lucky and wish I will not have the issue for coming Red MY.
All TESLA MY cars I know is for Year 2022 and not prior year made.

I was surprised when I picked up my MY because I read and heard the all bad things about TESLA. However, mine was really good shape and no problem at all. One of my friend's MY has a front door alignment issue but I helped him to get the service thru TESLA APP. TESLA sent a technician to his house and fixed it within 40 min. very next day.

Impressive!!!

None of my Acura, Lexus and BMW (which is the worst of service) have ever come to my house to fix it within a couple of days.

Tesla put in double-paned windows sometime in the last couple of years. Major improvement in noise reduction.

On the Y, it's random. You'll have to physically look upon delivery.

Poor sales skills. Tesla's road noise (not from window) are not going to be as good as the luxury brand (BMW, Benz, Acura, Lexus, etc.) I think it is a design/material issues.

The wind noise I experienced are fixable. Tesla should not put any test unit with fixable wind noise.

There are other factors, but for what it's worth: Three days ago, my friend whose credit score is 760 told me the Tesla Financing rate is 5.34% for a 72-month term.

I hope this helps,
