Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

There is another important variable: the size of the wheels.

If you want a comfortable ride, get the standard 19" wheels. If you want the quieter ride, get the 19" wheels.

It works out that more people are getting the standard wheels because of the $55K limit. Which is very good, since the standard wheels also give the best range.

For people living in snow zones we were also told the 19" wheels come with better tires for snow and that the 20" can only hold suspect all weather tires that do not do well in snow at all. I might have that slightly wrong, but Tesla employee told us something along these lines.

How can you tell whether you have the matrix lights or not?
Matrix light has a bulb

Mine doesn't have it. It was manufactured in Austin 1/2023

Tesla guy said quality is the same, the only thing difference is the Tesla light show….whatever

The Model 3 and Y have made steady improvements in noise reduction. They are much better than they were 2 or 3 years ago.
Single (before) Vs Dual (now) pane windows, should be better on the whole.

lol, yeah, that's a totally reasonable way to buy a $55k car. Suckers born every minute.
Their service sucks

But then again I don't like car salesman trying to sell phantom paint protection for extra 3000

So it's a wash

With all respect, you don't know the model Y. A consistent complaint is that it does not absorb bumps well. Well, hopefully the newly introduced Comfort Suspension helps. Also, it is not as quiet as other cars in this price range.

There are legitimate reasons not to buy the Y, and Musk is the biggest one, IMO. But there are also very good reasons to buy it. Ask people who own Tesla vehicles.
Lol Musk never entered my mind when I bought a car

Tesla is no way close to perfect

But I love driving it for under 50K

For cars that are equivalent price the $37k model 3 is much much quieter than $37k audi A3. Not even close.

this thread is getting more comical these days.. toyota and ice shills coming in complaining one thing after the other..

like mileage range, suspension, windnoise, panel gap, parking sensors, vegan leather..

people forgot toyota rav4 prime battery recall for 2019-2021 models, forgot how noisy toyota/hondas are, how terrible the mileage is with ac full blast driving at 90mph.. list goes on on and on..

but hey.. go ahead and buy 72k porsche, mb, audi, bmw so u can get less noise.. i don't know why those people bother to compare it to a 37/47k tesla. LOL

also fun fact.. civic and corollas are 30k+ out the door now.. and you'll get all the tesla problem installed from the manufacturer without asking.
One of my friends just traded 2020 Porsche Cayanne to 2023 because Porsche gave him a good deal. We do a carpool together to the work for over 45miles in one way in Atlanta, GA. He paid it over $100,000 included Trade-in. YES, less noise that is all about it.
Luxury, maybe I see a lot of buttons and LED lights. Less Spaces for passengers and cargo area. Not a great agility, dynamic or handling. It consumes a lot of gas because it is a turbo engine but it is not quick as MY. He just went to Porsche dealer to get the engine oil change and waited at the dealership for over 4 hours which he was promised within 90 min to be done.

Right before I purchased MY in 2022, I went Acura for getting 2022 MDX with trade-in 2010 MDX. The dealer said not buying 2010 MDX and asking me $8000 over MSRP for 2023 MDX and waiting 4 to 5 months. I walked out the dealer and sold my 2010 MDX for $9000 to Carmax. I went a few times for my Lexus GS-350 F-Sport for suspension problems within warranty period and still have the problem. I will trade in or just sell it to Carmax right before I get MY soon.

I am sure this happening is not only Acura, it looks like all over the dealers at that time. I called a few BMW and Mercedes too. Not much different than Acura.

YES, now I understand why so many ppl complain for the wind noise. I just have not had the experiences. I guess I am lucky and wish I will not have the issue for coming Red MY.
All TESLA MY cars I know is for Year 2022 and not prior year made.

I was surprised when I picked up my MY because I read and heard the all bad things about TESLA. However, mine was really good shape and no problem at all. One of my friend's MY has a front door alignment issue but I helped him to get the service thru TESLA APP. TESLA sent a technician to his house and fixed it within 40 min. very next day.

Impressive!!!

None of my Acura, Lexus and BMW (which is the worst of service) have ever come to my house to fix it within a couple of days.
people just want to bash tesla for the sake of bashing.. i dont own a tesla but theyre good cars for the money right now.. 47k my is alot of feature for the price. the driving suspension needs time to get used to.

horse/buggy riders had to get used to the gas pedal and stick shift when they were first introduced. boomer mentality needs to die or adapt with change.

all of these ice car dealers are acting like theres still a shortage from chip stil.. its really comicaL when u look at their lot.. cars piling up and its alot of new cars too. goodluck to them trying to sell at scalped 5-10k mark up. elon just reset the market pricing.. they will eat all the floor rental interest with the more cars piling up.
