Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

Why is the govt subsidizing $80000 trucks/SUVs for couples making $300K?
Why shouldn't Gubment give a break to W2s that carry the lion's share of income tax burden in this country (Vs 40% pay nothing dead weight)? They take virtually half our paychecks (income tax states) anyway, good will gesture. Income caps be gone, like before.

Yes, but that's not the point. It at least needs a phase out formular to cover $7500 after tax income. Otherwise, a family earning $301k will ends up with less income after buying the same car comparing to a family earning $300k AGI. Normally IRS tax credits involve gradual phasing out range. Not sure why this ev credit is special.
if your family is at 301k.. just donate 1k or ira rollover
if you're smart enough to realize 1k over is gonna cost 7500 credit.. pretty sure u can wiggle 1k to get back 7500

For 2022, you can only deduct charitable contribution deductions if you itemize deductions. So, that may not work well.

People in the >$300K income level are likely to have maxed out their 401K/IRA contributions. On the other hand, $7.5K makes less a difference to those in that tax bracket.

Maybe it is smart to see if Tesla can lower the price after the tax incentive is reduced, for those not able to claim the incentive.

You're correct. Tesla still has plenty of room in profit margins. But the competition doesn't.
I'm not sure the competition can push Tesla to lower prices. I think Tesla can push competition to lower. That may be even better for us. Ford really got stupid with Lightning prices. Maybe they'll "eventually" have to revisit their plan? Maybe not. The line still exist.
Hard to tell what they will do. Was using China as a reference model where the model Y is now priced at CNY 309,900 ($45,700)

Too bad so much rain! FYI, you pick up your car across the street from the service center. You don't even have to talk to anyone. Just find your car (your name will be on a piece of paper on the dash), unlock it via your app. The key cards are inside, and it's all yours to drive off with.

I ordered M3 base on 1/13, deliver schedule text came today 1/24 - the only delivery dates available were 2/3, 2/4, 2/5 - I'll take it on 2/4. Plenty of timeslots were still available for those 3 days, nothing else was available to pick from calendar.
Which state or City ?

I asked my SA, he said matrix LED will not be available in any cars. I also read some article posted in this thread https://driveteslacanada.ca/model...mporarily/ - matrix led on MY was temporary due to some part shortage and now it is back to normal, so more matrix LEDs it looks like.

Tesla rep said, USS (Sensors) will be removed from all models (even S & X) this year and quoted an article : https://www.tesla.com/support/tra...sla-vision
and that SA is full of BS, at least for matrix lights.

if you check teslamotor on reddit, plenty of posts shows Long range model y from Fremont tents to have matrix lights as late as this week. it seems like austin build long range Y don't have the light, but most fremont ones do since august of last year.
https://www.reddit.com/r/TeslaMod...ts_across/

anyhow, if you want to make sure your car is Fremont build, get the 7 seat, or have the white interior.

in fact, based on someone's quote from Tesla forum

"I got Fremont built Model Y LR and it has Matrix Head lights. The staff at delivery center told that all Model Y'd received so far from Fremont had Matrix Day light.."
