Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

Has anyone applied for auto loan and got approved with Tower FCU who is not U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien?
I hope not. But in this new improved goofy world we live in. Who knows! But I doubt it.

I wasn't sure how the numbers were going to be taken. Everyone knows why the sales surge happened. We all know margins were reduced. "I" didn't know how the market would define/interpret the numbers. Interesting.

It may say complete but they will likely ask you to submit insurance proof again showing you added the car to your insurance policy. See the 2nd Line says Must include " VIN of Your New Tesla" I'll just take a picture of my current one like you said just to get the box check though thanks!
Yeah, I had the same concern. My/most insurance will insure your for a short time when you purchase a new vehicle. Then you contact your insurer and give them the VIN and the car is now insured. But Tesla appears to want proof to drive off. I'm not sure how my insurer is going to handle that or what proof they'll give. Maybe a statement he's insured? I don't know either.

I spoke to soon on Towers delays. Looks like my Tower loan got preapproved. Does anyone know where I get these documents?

In order to finalize your approval, please provide the following:

Purchased order, including VIN.
and
Original Notarized Specific Power of Attorney signed by all proposed title holders.
New to me. I'm thinking Tower would become your title holder, as in Lienholder.
I don't recall having anything notarized for financing. Yes, I've purchased a few cars in my lifetime. Different procedures?

Download the form it's on tower website and fill it and notarize it. Purchase orde , VIN you have to wait for Tesla to assign one. Once assigned , take screenshot and upload everything . Pretty basic stuff,

What is the breakdown between collision and comprehensive?
2019 Honda pilot. $500ded, comprehensive and collision 100k/300k from progressive is $254/6mo. New progressive quote replacing Honda for MYLR is $715/6mo. My agent is running this now across many insurance companies in case progressive is one of those anti Tesla insurance companies. The downside is I save 10% having auto as a multi discount plan with my homeowners.

Just curious if anyone placed the order on 15th or later and got the VIN already? my status has not changed since more than a week, still showing delivery between Jan 29 to Feb 26. I am assuming it takes at least couple of weeks for delivery after VIN is assigned.
Lucky you! I ordered on the 16th, and I'm still Feb - March 31. I think I'll still make it, but , , ,

All, I'm still confused why we have to send a specific power of attorney to get the loan with Tower. Other lenders don't do that. Anyone else concerned that power of attorney is needed for the auto loan?
I've never experienced even the notarizing, let alone giving power of attorney.

I do not meet the income requirements to get me tax credit of $7500, can any of my relative buy to get tax credit $7500 and later gift car to me? Do I have to pay sales tax when gifted? Option 2, can I be co-owner and still get the tax credit based on one owner income meeting the criteria? The tax credit is for the year 2023 which we file during April 2024 right?
Co-owner name can't remove until file tax return but you are correct co-owner can use $7500 credit if he or she meets criteria

Selling as a gift should avoid any extra sales tax but irs want co-owner name on the car for rebate so you want to ask TurboTax forum this question

https://ttlc.intuit.com/community...00/1116630

One owner can sell car to any one but value cannot be same as a new (like you see lot of plug in on car max or carvana )

"Like" if you will cancel your order if you don't take delivery of the car in time to get the $7500 tax credit.

SImilar dilemma. App shows estimated delivery of Mar 1 to Mar 24. Guess the tax credit is a toss up now since nobody seem to know if the full $7500 will be available after March 1.
I heard a Tesla stock analyst on CNBC today and he mentioned March 1st as the cutoff date for the $7500 credit. I might have to cancel my order if my car is not ready by then. The tax credit was the only reason I decided to get in on the deal
