Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

Can someone tell me why would you buy a Tesla Model Y vs Mercedes SQB which all for the same price & both qualify for the $7.5K rebate
For me the closest Tesla Service Center is 1.5 hr drive vs Mercedes - 2 dealership within 20min driving distance,

FYI - The Mercedes SQB is the EV version of the popular GLB model.
I'm guessing you mean the Mercedes EQB, not SQB. Reasonably priced, but it's slower, less range, and in my opinion, terribly ugly. The EQS looks pretty nice, but it's up to 100k.

hands free access, keyless go, wireless charging, panorama roof are on premium builds - costs +4K. website says not all features are available because of chip shortage

also the merc ev system needs to mature..

range makes a huge difference, also the supercharging network

*EQB

The Mercedes is for people that don't really want an EV. I've been cross shopping a lot of these cars and the Tesla is about the only EV I might be willing to deal with on a long trip in cold temps in semi-rural areas. The rest are just flat out not ready for primetime.

Add 20,000 in 7 years to replace batteries. Expect range to be half when it is cold outside.
my friend's 2016 Model S didn't see any degradation either

That's why we have both chocolate and vanilla ice cream.

I personally don't think Tesla will drop prices any further. Once they get right below the IRA tax threshold, there appears to be solid demand. So no need to go down further.
Maryland will be offering a $3k incentive on EVs under $50K starting in Jul. Interesting to see how prices are effected over the next 6 months. The year got off to a good start.

He's probably one of those folks who always drive 90 mph. That will indeed drop fuel efficiency in any car.

Picking a performance up the 4th and its going to be 7deg is that going to be safe to drive 200 miles in on summer tires
I wouldn't, but that's up to you. The summer tires will be hard as a rock.

I can't imagine Tesla dropping US prices across the board, to meet incentive requirements for 1 or 2 states. Especially since the M3 LR would already qualify. Possibly the AWD will too?

Why the mods allow you to post this blatant lie over and over and over again is sort of telling.

Actually it is at least 2 lies, I won't include your lie about the Civic.

There is NO Tesla that is $37K period! You cannot count rebates that not everyone qualifies for and the whole IRA is in flex. And Corollas are NOT $36K

The cheapest stripped Model 3 available now is $45,630 +TTL

The cheapest stripped Corolla is $22,645 +TTL

So the Tesla is DOUBLE the price. Let me explain that for the simpletons...

You can but 2 Corollas for the price of 1 Model 3. OK?

So stop lying and mods, do your job and delete these blatant lies. Unless you like them and support them.
Yeah, but no one wants a Corolla. Much less two of them laugh out loud

Once this batch of buyers is satisfied, how will they reach the next lower level? Maybe that is why CT has been so long coming?

The 'next batch of buyers' at a lower price point ($20K-$40K) will have plenty of used Teslas to choose from.

According to the IRS: "You can use your modified AGI from the year you take delivery of the vehicle or the year before, whichever is less. If your modified AGI is below the threshold in 1 of the two years, you can claim the credit."

The IRA applies to all qualified BEV and FCV cars purchased from 2023 and 2032.

So if you take delivery of your car today, when you file your taxes in 2024, you can use your AGI from either 2022 or 2023.
