Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

so there is still a chance. Imagine if they add it and the fed just doesnt change anything after march.
so lower price - $7500 tax credit - $7500 CVRP for CA
then its no question to purchase
I was wondering about that exact thing. What if the Fed doesn't change a thing? ie People can continue to order, receive and get the $7500 credit throughout the year.

I'm still waiting on my membership approval. Should I upload my Social Security card and two utility bills preemptively? I've followed this thread since page 1 and this is the first I've read about issues with Tower other than their speed.
Likewise, today is the first I heard any problem about them except speed.

Thanks!
I was pursuing a loan with that credit union. I changed my mind after communication issues. At least at my branch. You cannot call into your branch. You have to call into a call center (probably Florida) and they'll communicate with your local branch for you. Stupid, but true at my branch (YMMV). Then they put a 5 day hold on Cashiers Check from Citi Bank! It was going into a 15 month CD! 5 day hold on a bank check? Then trying to talk to anyone was just too much hassle. I'm waiting for the check to clear, so I can close the account: bounce: I can't even close the account because the cashiers check is still on hold till tomorrow night! I think they received it last Wednesday. But maybe your loan will be smooth? If it isn't, good luck with communicating.

I don't think Tesla is the actual lender. When you start the process through the app, they eventually direct you to a partner lender. The first time I did it, was Alliant CU. The next time was Wells Fargo. It all goes through the Tesla app. It's always been smooth for me.
Surprised they didn't do credit check,I didn't see any credit inquiry. I did from Tesla and lender is WF as well

This thread is now full of poor people talking about loans. I thought this was slickdeals. Car loans are not a slickdeal. If you can't afford to pay cash, you probably can't afford the car and need to reassess your life choices. Especially with a recession on the horizon. FYI only home loans and student loans are reasonable loans. Otherwise you're doomed to stay poor. I wonder how many repos we are going to see in 2024. Maybe 2024 will be the year of the car loan crisis like 2008 for the housing crisis. And that will be sight to behold
Being able to afford to pay cash is of course a good thing. Paying cash because you can is for those who don't know how to manage money. You may wanna speak to someone about handling money correctly if that's what you do. Just a thought.

This Nick guy got suspended again. So do you also avoid anything made in Germany too? BMW and MB? Your reason to not buy a Tesla is convoluted.

Same in Texas, but Tesla clearly says you have to have your insurance updated with the VIN and it has to be at least 60 days.

Now whether they check or not I dont know but you risk delaying your delivery.
I plan to get it updated and have the new car added when I have an actual delivery appt scheduled. Until then, I just used the existing insurance screenshot to complete the task.

But you are correct that it could cause a delay if Tesla were to be adamant about seeing the new car before letting me schedule delivery.

If you are the only buyer, you sign it in front of a notary. If you aren't the only buyer, you arrange it so you and the other buyer(s) are together in front of a notary.

for those in CA who arent in a rush to show off or actually NEED the car, i would wait to see if tesla adds themselves back on the CVRP and see what the gov does after March

$15,000 possible savings on top of the reduced price would be a big win

Do I need to have tow hitch to carry bike rack? If I have to update my order then can it delay the delivery. I have not got VIN assigned and order is in editable mode.

Super easy, i got my approval for the loan within 10 mins of approving at 5.34% yes its high but i can always refinance with other auto loan like tower after ... just seemed easier to do it with tesla first
Does Tesla use Out-the-door price while considering a loan or just MSRP?
