Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

Thought I would update everyone interested in my experience.

01/18/2023

Placed order "late" after wife was able to test drive and compare Model 3 and Model Y.

- MYLR White w/ 20inch wheels

01/21/2023

Estimated Delivery Date of last week of March. At this point I was looking at the MYP vs the LR as there was uncertainty if I would even qualify for FED credit at this point.

01/27/2023

Make decision to change order to MYP and start looking at inventory builds.
I test drove a MYLR with 19" rims (very smooth ride but hated the rims). I then ordered the LR with 20" rims. After thinking about it, I changed my order to the MYP. Now that you got the MYP and seems like you have driven a few models, how is the smoothness of the ride with the 21" rims? I'm coming from a sports car with staggered tires, low profile, etc. so I have no issue with a sporty ride, but wondered how the ride comfort was going from the 19" (which I tested), to the 20" or the 21" in the P.

Since I am still waiting after ordering my Tesla last week, is best to still try TCU?
I am pre-approved with Penfed but their rate is really high. My score is averaging 750-765 right now but will drop if and when I apply at another CU. What did most of you do first, apply for the loan then membership or both at the same time? I'm in South Florida and any help from the best community on the internet would be appreciated.

I was approved today at Gold Coast FCU for 2.49 for 60 months. You have to do the membership first and then the loan.

If you don't mind my asking, what was your score for that rate and who did they pull?

I drove MYP 21 inch yesterday and I have 20inch Audi A6 sport. Not much difference in handling esp. on the corners. I think MYP is more smoother.

I applied at GCFCU back on 1/16 and still haven't heard a peep. That said, I've also not chased them down as I remembered that the State of Florida charges loan doc stamp fees based on the loan amount. That made the prospect compared to Tower not worth it for me (I financed 110%).

01/27/2023

Make decision to change order to MYP and start looking at inventory builds. Later that day I find one after trying to transfer reservation to another one with phone customer support. Online chat support was useless and wanted me to create a new order, possibly to get whatever commission is available.

VIN immediately assigned to my account as soon as I hang up phone call. Then Tesla app starts to ask for all tasks leading up to final payment.

Late in the evening, I am alerted to schedule delivery between 01/29/2023 - 02/01/2023

I start loan apps to find best rate. Local CU won at 4.5 APR.

01/28/2023

Tesla emails stating that I need to schedule my delivery date by end of day or my order will be canceled.

Scheduled last possible date to make sure financing is taken care of.

01/29/2023

Tesla emails asking for proof of funding but lackluster communication starts with Tesla team. Phone number that initiated text message for my order was a ghost town. Email communication was a ghost town... customer phone support was slammed so couldn't connect with anyone.

I was seeking clarification on what they needed from me. Ended day without answer.

01/30/2023

Local dealer reaches out to me to answer questions and dot the i's and cross those t's. Send proof of funding via email as requested and I am cleared to pick up that day if I wanted to.

Picked up vehicle that day.

The whole process was easy enough but the lack of communication when they themselves deemed it urgent was crummy. Added stress to something that didn't need too. To be fair, it does seem like they were slammed with the surge of recent purchases. Sales Associated that checked me in for my pickup did mentioned that they were doing 60+ deliveries a day from 12 ish early January.

The overview of the car was rushed due to the long line waiting to pick up and some of the associates seemed beat. I mention this because some associates were rude to me and other customers. Luckily I didn't spend too much time with them.

Wife and I were looking into a MYP last year but held off. So lucky we did and even luckier that we went with the Performance before IRS allowed that model for the credit.

Good luck to you all that are still waiting to get delivery.
Did your MYP come with matrix headlights? Is it an Austin or Fremont build?

Based on the BBB reviews of Tower, I'm not confident of their ability to refi. I'm trying to decide should I try the US Senate FCU for 3.5% and not refi with Tower or go with a local FCU for near 5% and refi with Tower. The thing is, I've never refinanced a car so wouldn't it then be a "used" car instead of a "new" car and no longer available to the new car rates?

I could buy the car outright but rather put that back into bonds at 6.8%.
I thought I responded to this earlier but I guess not. I was able to succesfully get Tower to refinance my loan from my local credit union. The wait was primarily on the membership application but then once that was approved I had to wait for my loan officer to contact me when payment was ready to be made. The entire process took exactly two weeks for me. They overnighted a check which cleared and zeroed out my original loan the day after it was received by my primary credit union. My accounts (checking, savings, loan) with Tower all show on my online portal and with the loan I was asked whether I wanted the loan payments to start immediately or after 90 days (with interest accruing daily still).

I'm happy with the experience given the rates that they're offering. The only credit union offering lower is Gold Coast and they have still yet to respond to my application for membership which was submitted on the same day as Tower's.

To answer your question about refinancing vs new, the rates are the same with Tower. I refinanced and have 2.99% for 60 months.

That's a bit high (normal in this economic environment) but you can get as low as 2.49% with some credit unions.

Thanks for the reply. I've spoken to Tower twice and both times they have been very nice about the situation that they have an overwhelming amount of applicants and they can't fast track me. I am preapproved but still waiting on membership. Currently I've heard nothing from them and it has been 7 business days.
I pickup my MYLR on Wednesday (unless I switch to a MYP-still debating) and I moved around some things so I can just pay Tesla in cash. Gotta figure out how they want me to do that. Then I'll refi with tower whenever they reach out to me. Hopefully my vehicle passes my 100 point inspection lol. Did yours? Did you decide to start paying immediately or wait 90 days?

Today we went to pick the car but we found some major issues like dents,scratches and a few interior issue so we did not pick it up today. We will wait for the service shop and then pick it up later. Suggestions please?
