Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

Oh it has been weeks. Very strange. Typically once a VIN is assigned at least in California, its liike gogogo to pick it up within 1 week or else we will release it to the next customer so nobody would get their permanent license plates by delivery day.
I just looked at the Registration in the glove compartment.

It says:

"Date Issued: 03/22/2023"
"Plate Issued: 03/22/2023"

Which is the date I picked up the car. Not sure exactly what they are doing, but it seems like in my State they maybe have a stack of license plates and are issuing the registration at the pickup location. The registration was actually printed/issued the day I picked the car up. So maybe dealers in my state have authority to act as a tag agency or something.

Don't know, but I was pleasantly surprised when the tag was already installed on the car and registration in the glove compartment. One less thing to do or worry about.

there are many cars available in central valley. Call Tesla and ask them to assign one of the vehicle you want.

Looking for guidance here, buying a model 3 from a local person(CA), she had a lien which she paid off but it's taking too long for the title to arrive. Allegedly, the lien holder (bank) has sent over the title release info to dmv but it's only been 3 business days since they received the payoff amount from the seller. Can we go to the dmv without a title and attempt to transfer the title?
Does the dmv have the capability to check in their system that the title is clear of any liens?
What's the worst-case scenario?

Has anyone attempted this?

There are no trust issues between the buyer and seller.
Thanks

Not sure what the rules in CA is.
On the east coast, I once bought a car with a lien on it.
My experience was that I got the account details, from which I got the payoff amount. then got a written transfer of title document and bill of sale. I then communicated to the lienholder bank that I was paying it off and gave them the transfer and BOS. I paid off the lien myself just to be sure and the lienholder returned the title to me instead of the seller using a transfer of lien form.

It took under a week from the payoff for the lien holder to notify the DMV electronically, but I was able to register it as soon as that reflected and then took a few more days before the DMV sent over the paper title.

I'm not sure what the rules are west, but the DMV will only know once the system reflects it. Which usually should be about a week. but you can keep checking with them daily. You can then submit your registration immediately that reflects.

Worst case scenario, is the title gets sent to the seller, and the seller then goes with the title document and gets another loan or sells the vehicle Confused. You asked so that's the worst I could think off. IMHO I would get a witnessed bill of sale, signed over title forms.

Honestly if she's really paid it off, you can use the account details and get the official payoff statement which should say zero balance. If you know that is the only lien and you have the statement saying zero balance, there is no reason the lien won't automatically come off once the DMV gets that in their system.

If you mean DC area, PM me. However I'm reading that Tesla has stopped allowing for transferring reservations. Do you know how to do a transfer. The car is ready for delivery.

Ordered 2 Model Y LR 1/17 and 1/18. Financed through GCF and picked up both this week. Love the cars and everything worked out. Brought the cars at the lowest price, lowest financing available, qualified for tax credits. Thanks SD
