Amazon has the Travelpro Platinum Elite Hardside Expandable Spinner Wheel Luggage TSA Lock Hard Shell Polycarbonate 21-inch carry-on Suitcase on sale:

Vintage Grey $227.53: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...=UTF8&th=1
True Navy Blue $237.93: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...=UTF8&th=1

I bought these in October when they were a front page deal for $204.40. I just travelled with them internationally, this size is allowed for cabin carry-on. They worked out very well, so I'm buying another one. I got two soft sides and a single hard side in October. I'm buying another hard side now.

Hard Side Pros:

- It has 4 wheels, witch makes it much easier to maneuver with that the 2-wheel soft sides
- You can sit on it while waiting
- It has a built-in TSA compatible combination lock, the soft side doesn't have any lock
- It has both a USB-A and a USB-C port on the built in power bank connector. The soft side is USB-A only.

Hard Side Cons:

- A little bit smaller than the soft side
- Not as easy to partially open the case and pull something out. It needs to be opened more than the soft side to access the insides

Travelpro has a soft side elite w 4 wheels. But for me I don't like how hardsides they opening is in the middle not the side it's harder to get stuff from and takes up more space in a room on floor opened.

I have this and the Maxlite 5 I was able to snag during the crazy sale last year for around 80ish and honestly, I prefer the soft-sided Maxlite mainly because the thing is light as air at 5 pounds. This thing weighs 8 pounds which is generally on a slightly higher end. Not the end of the world for light travellers but most airlines have been really strict nowadays on the carry on weight so every pound/kg matters. Also prefer the soft-sided since you can open them from the top as opposed to cutting the bag in half every time you try to open it.

But TravelPro products are amazingly well built. It replaced my Samsonite and they're much much higher quality and premium feeling. As a brand, it is an easy recommend.

The silver shows $223 and navy blue $220 for me. Guess I'll cop the navy blue.

Does anyone have any issues on airlines with the 21in larger carry on vs the compact? I do travel Frontier but generally take a carry on. Would hate to invest this much and get assaulted at the ticket counter for .5 inches too big.

Thank you for your recommendation regarding the Maxlite. I just ordered one from Amazon for $100.

I read on the other thread that a person travelled on international fights many times at this luggage, and nobody ever had an issue with the size.

I travelled with AA and British Airlines, and the agents didn't have a second look at these carry on's and didn't bother weighing them. I'm sure that nobody is going to mess with you over half an inch, and the worst thing that I think can happen is that they make you check it in. That could happen on a full flight too, when the overhead compartments are full.
