4TB MX500 has QLC variant [wordpress.com] now you won't know if this is TLC or QLC model unless open it only 4 phillips screws 2 on each sides hold the SSD enclosure. Or use SMI Flash ID tool to see the specs.

Must resist. Don't really need. Would be nice.

I was originally looking to purchase this from Amazon, but after reading some feedback some buyers received the 500GB version instead of 4TB. Also, while shipping was free, it was not 2-day Prime

Hope this helps someone.

Can I get an enclosure and use it as an external drive?
sure or you can use it without a case using a SATA to USB adapter.

This drive is a harbinger of how even when things stay the same, they actually change. The MX500 was the second fastest SATA SSD for a very long time...

With the exception of not disclosing SMR on some models, hard drives have more or less always gotten better over the years... Less power consumption, noise, and higher throughput. We have come a long way from my 4 gig Seagate barracuda SCSI-2 drive (ie: apache helicopter) of yore.

But SSDs seem to be going in the reverse... Other than the interface upgrading, we are losing endurance, max and sustained throughput, and even warranties are taking a dump...its like slim gaming consoles...lose features. It's a SATA drive... Is any "upgrade" to them ever going to be our benefit?

This makes me want to go find used mx500s or even Samsung 860 EVOs

yes last time I got a 500gb instead of 4tb, had to chat with amzn to return it and they ship a 4tb to me while I dropoff the 500 at ups to return..... everything works out at the end no issue though.
