Does this really come with only one remote that has only one button?

Got 1 in Seattle. Installers do not like the Genie brand. One said he wouldn't even install them. Getting Lowes to do it for $139 is a lot cheaper than anyone I've found on thumbtack. For $26 I'll roll the dice and hope I don't get bit.
I installed this exact opener in my house last month - first time installing a door opener and I couldn't salvage anything from the old opener that was installed. So new mounts, new wiring, new everything pretty much and it was honestly straightforward. Curious why installers didn't want to do it - even if they don't like the brand, the installation process should be the same. For $26 - I'd probably pay for installation as well, but if you're a DIYer and thinking of doing it yourself, it's very doable. Just needs some patience, and careful reading when going through the installation steps they provide.

One remote, yes. Can't remember if it's one button or not but just curious why the number of buttons matters? I honestly don't use mine, hence why I don't recall the number of buttons. However, using the app on the phone is very easy and convenient, and you can hook it up to Alexa or Google to do voice prompts and even set up an access code so not anyone can just activate it via voice prompts. If you really want additional remotes, I've seen Genie remotes sold separately. For $26 for the entire unit, paying for an additional remote may be an easy and affortable solution.

Thanks.
Any way to make standard Chamberlain remote and standard Chamberlain keypad work with this opener?

"Installers do not like the Genie brand". I don't find that part to be true at all in my part of of the country (Midwest). In fact, Genie even has a Pro line that's only available at dealers/installers.

I've got a Genie chain drive opener that's going on 2 decades old, still works like the day it was installed, and it's on a large/heavy double door.

Could not find a single one anywhere - probably employee tax.

I got one at the Tulsa Lowes. They were up high on the shelves not on the floor.

This now shows $18.72 near me with four in stock on brickseek. Is it worth the 45 minute drive to risk it not being in stock?

Got one. Did not install it yet. On connecting to power, there is a humming noise. Quite soft volume but the hum is definitely there.

I have a 20 years old chamberlain 1/2 hp chain drive that still works…can someone comment if this would be worth the change. I've always wondered about the belt drives but never pulled the trigger. Thanks
1. Had a craftsman from the 80s that recently stopped working.

Frayed drive belt - you can get that under $20 at ace hardware etc. Standard v-belt, easy to replace in minutes by just rolling the belt into the shafts.
Blown big capacitor. Very well known failure point since caps simply can't last forever. You'd have to ebay/online order it, again cheap, then swap it out. Again, simple, half hour at most simply opening it up, identifying where it is, then getting the tools to get it out (not hard at all).

If it was just 1 or the other, I'd have kept going with it, but figure with the age + double expense of the parts, maybe time to go? (Ie. What else will fail? Sprockets? My light sockets in it died already years ago.)

2. Door needed rebalancing, etc, so called up the garage door guy. Naturally, $900 to rebalance, remove, install a new liftmaster. Took him about 2 1/2 hours for all that. Most of it removing the old track, installing new track, opener metal brackets across the rafters, running the new wires for the remote and sensors, and adjusting door balance.

Diy? Easily 4-8 hours futzing around.

If it's a simple opener swap, then that's much easier... Just release the chain tension, pop off drive sprocket, release the track, lower it into the top of another ladder then you're good to go to swap out the opener.

3. Running a chain here, but the difference isn't in the chain vs belt since both run silent over the sprockets. It's the be direct drive motor that is far quieter. Used to be able to hear the garage door open and close from the bedroom (1/2 the house distance away in a 2500 sq ft), but today, can't.

Otherwise, it opens and closes....but mine has a variable speed motor, so it starts slower, then moves progressively faster, then slows again at the other end. Guess part of that is less stress on the new motor whereas the 80s motor simply powered thru it all at full speed.

4. The ninny sensors to prevent door closing is absurd. 6" from the ground on both sides (it won't close if an object is breaking the optical sensor beam), in addition to the normal force sensor in the 80s and new (it'll reverse if you push against a closing door).

Biggest problem? Sunlight streaming in kills the door close randomly. So you're pulling away thinking the door is going to be closed, but you return home to an open garage door that reversed itself.

Ninny sensor, so promptly did the YouTube thing. Cut the wires, faced both sensors at each other, duct tape, threw it on the garage opener, then wired them back in. Permanently active and uninterrupted light beam up there.

(Otherwise, you'd have to oscilloscope the unique sensor receiver pattern, then get a raspberry pi etc to replay that all the time into the opener's sensor hookup.)

5. On mine, the battery backup is yet another ninny waste. Only 1~ year stated battery life and no, I'm not feeding liftmaster their annual paycheck. Thankfully, opener will run even if the battery is dead.
Basically useless for me since I can easily lift the garage door once unlatched, but might be helpful for those in areas with frequent power outages.

6. Longevity?
Ha ha ha ha ha....
We all know the old machinery from decades ago are built with better motors and can run forever with maintenance.

Washing machine? 35 years
Dryer? 40 years
Opener? 30+ years

It's only when it costs too much in time and money do I replace the old, and none of the garage door installers can say the new ones last forever.

If the current opener is still running, pop open the cover AND UNPLUG IT, and inspect the drive belt and big capacitor. Both easy to spot, and if capacitor is leaking or belt fraying, easy to get a price on ebay.

If either is getting up to half the price of this deal, buy this deal. Maybe not install right away since the old one runs, but you've got a future diy project.

....

I will say this, at $35~ this opener is a smart spare to have stored in the attic for the rare day the current one goes.

If it's the same belt type, 30 minutes experienced installer swap to 1-2 hours diy.

Openers are all mostly the same, so follow the step by step after gathering all the tools and ladders you'll need and generally no issues.

Just gotta watch out about getting a 20 to 30lbs opener up and down safely.

I bought two units from Home Depot during the Black Friday sale. One of the units came with a 3 button remote and the other came with a 1 button remote. So YMMV. I guess it depends what was readily available when the package everything.

Not currently clearance in my area, but I wonder if it will go clearance soon?

If so, I don't see why I couldn't return the 2 I got on BF and repurchase at this price, right?
