Usually these require deep electrical outlet boxes so you'll have to replace those too if yours are too small

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. Replaced many 15 amp receptacles. It's cheap insurance just to upgrade.
Codes allow you to use 15 amp receptacles on a 20 amp circuit almost all 15 amp receptacles are rated to 20amps pass through. It even says it from the manufacture and the 2020 NEC. which all states adopted. tens of millions of homes are wired this way and Its been tried and tested.

I don't see how USB c to usb C cables are the future? Sure they are reversible but the port is annoying small when plugging it in the wall
They are the future thanks to Europe passing the laws that they have to be standard so manufacturer are going to comply worldwide because of manufacturing cost.

The area of my bedroom has old 2 prong sockets. For years I've using one of those 2 prong to 3 prong adapters. Also I have a surge protector plugged into it which I use to charge my phone, iPad, laptop, monitor, tv, and console. I usually have the phone, iPad, laptop, echo sow 8 and monitor always plugged in. I ve had this setup for yrs, and avoided any malfunctions or fire up till now. And more recently have had power outages due to the weather and no issues. So am I tempting fate and should just look for a safer method
if you own your residence and plan on staying a while i'd recommend asking someone with some experience to assist you in upgrading your outlets. the third prong is for ground, which handles excess power surge returns, which your surge protector cannot utilize.

If they're so inept they can't install these themselves they deserve to lose 2 grand.

Unless you buy the cheapest 15 amp receptacles nearly almost every 15 amp receptacle can pass through 20 amps . Many internals are exactly the same it's just the shape that's different . Once again , unless it's bottom of the barrel 15a receptacle and even then it's still perfectly fine unless you're running a high amp appliance 12 amps and over .

Yes you can put a 20 amp outlet on a 15 amp circuit and breaker. it would still only pull 15 amps because the breaker will trip before it exceeds 15 amps. Look up the codes. as long as the OCPD protects the conductors, there is no problem with it.
No you can't . 210.21(b)(3) max receptacle for 15A circuits is a 15A receptacle.

Breakers don't necessarily trip just because it goes over 15 amps there is more to it than just that .

If you're really doing this you should use gfci receptacles .While a GFCI will not protect your electronics from power surges, it will protect you from electrocution and short circuits. If you replace your ungrounded, two prong outlet with a GFCI, you must label it with no equipment ground sticker.

Also, without grounding, it's also impossible to protect your electronics and appliances with surge protectors. Surge protectors work only if they are can connect to a ground wire. Without this wire, they offer no better protection for electronic devices than do multiprong outlets.

I dont understand these comments. I have a ton of stuff that is still mini-usb, thus making a standard usb-a the best for my applications. Tons of people still have mini USB flashlights, lanterns, power banks. We all get that personal electronics like phones, tablets ect are usb c.
I think saying tons of people still have mini-usb is a bit of a stretch. Micro USB, yes. Mini usb, no.

Good luck. There's a "professional" electrician in this forum who will prove code wrong...smh
