I just went through this. You may need to:
- Go to Settings, Parental controls, enable Nintendo 3DS Shopping Services
- Go to Settings, Nintendo Network ID Settings, sign in, enable the account to be used on non-nintendo devices
- Log into Nintendo store online (not on 3ds), go to your profile, user info, link network id, do that
- Open the store on the 3ds so it refreshes settings
- Finally, complete the purchase on the nintendo store (not on the 3ds). My advice is to open an incognito window and log in fresh because the store screws up pretty easily otherwise. Accept merging funds when prompted.

- Sleep the 3ds to complete the download

weird they just put that one and not like ALL lego 3ds games... hoping for more 3ds eshop sales before it closes.

If you wanted to buy it for someone else you would have to sign in to their account on Nintendo.com and then purchase it.

Error Code 902-3156 when trying to purchase. I guess I need to call Nintendo and figure out why my 3DS isn't linked correctly to the store.

People still use their 3ds? Mine has been in a drawer for many years lol. I have one of those rom4 cartridges. Loved playing the GTA Chinatown wars and new super Mario brothers. I wouldnt if they re released that GTA game for switch

Not condoning piracy, but the 3DS can be fairly easily modded to play all kinds of retro games(and of course 3ds). Now that the system is dead, it would be a good time to do so before they shut down the eshop. I had an old one that I modded and put all of my 15 y/o son's old games on an SD card to let my 4 y/o play without fear of him losing game carts.
