What an insanely cool book. This year X-men was my favorite and I collected the cards. I am a bit disappointed that most of the book are just scans of the cards. You can find the same scanned images online for download =\

I used to have so many of these cards. I specifically remember my 4th grade teacher taking them away from me, because I kept looking at them in class, and she ended up somehow losing them. My mom chewed her out. I still think about it from time to time. Those cards were awesome.
This and Mcfarlane Spider-Man were peak comics industry. To give you an idea of where the industry sits now, your comic is considered a huge success if you end up with 50k copies sold and you may actually get another printing.

Haha, that brand new plastic card smell. Remember when the teachers would make photocopies of stuff when it was fresh? At our school it always came out purplish and it had a particular smell.
Jim Lee and a bunch of other artists had a signing event in my town years ago. The signing was running way late and there were still around 100 people waiting to get their comics signed. They didn't want to disappoint, so they basically made everybody line up and they were just gonna go down the line signing and greeting. To keep things moving, you were allowed only two comic books to get signed. Well, in addition to my two comic books, I really wanted to get this pin signed so that I could proudly wear it. When he came by, I started to show him the pin but then tucked it away because I wanted to be fair to everyone else. Jim saw me tuck it away and was like, "No no. Give it to me. I'll sign it!" I could have died right there. He was one of my heroes before that, and then after that moment he became one of my gods. Love Jim.
Thanks for that share. I have always wanted to meet him and after hearing that now I really want to! This just goes to prove that Jim always puts a smile on peoples faces. He was apart of my childhood and I will never forget.
Are there books like these for the Marvel Masterpieces?
They didnt do a hardcover for those but Marvel published them as comics featuring the prints and a short intro from Joe Jusko in the early 90s. Absolutely worth it if you can find them!!!! It shows the full images and for the special cards, they did those as a two page pinup.
They are bringing the series back with a sequel on Disney+, X-Men '97.. coming Fall of this year!
They are but sadly the man who voiced Cyclops passed away and I don't know who will be playing his voice. 😢
They are also going to have someone else voice Jubilee since the original voice actress is not Asian and they don't want to be criticized of misappropriation.

Not just Cyclops. Xavier and Magneto's VA's also passed away.
