IRS VITA and TCE Programs
The IRS's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) programs offer free basic tax return preparation to qualified individuals.
The VITA program has operated for over 50 years. VITA sites offer free tax help to people who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns, including:
- People who generally make $60,000 or less
- Persons with disabilities; and
- Limited English-speaking taxpayers
Gotta love SD. People just can't/won't/don't read and then like to complain for no reason.
Norton is SEPARATE. You don't need to do jack shit if you don't like it. Delete the email if you think they're going to infect you by opening that email. It does not install with HR block. BTW, I did use Norton recently and it worked just fine. It's your choice if you want to use it or not. They went through overhaul and it's not like the old days where it used to eat up a lot of resources.
HR Block price is good. It's not the greatest deal but it's not a bad price either. Amazon had it at one point for $22 and the reason for me to get it there was because you can use your digital credits on the digital copy of this.
Uhhh...It's currently less than $20...

Just FYI, read the fine print at the bottom of the fifth picture with the comparison chart. There is an additional $20 e-file charge for states other than NY and not available in NH. There may be other info there pertinent to some.

FYI, this is the case with all tax filing software's as I have not seen "Free" to e-File but just that you are getting their "State" software to help you do your State taxes in addition to the Federal taxes where e-Filing is free.
Very important - if you do purchase a Norton product (and sadly Mcafee will do this to you too I could be wrong but I think all the security software suites are doing this nowadays it's insane) it will indeed require a credit card number to get the product up and running but I've always found Norton makes it easy to cancel auto-renew without even speaking to an agent through your online norton account
just be very careful to click "yes I really do want to cancel auto renew" throughout all the prompts they give you they make it very easy to click on the wrong thing if you're rapidly clicking through stuff without looking closely... after that pull your credit card number from your account, I've done this and Norton works just fine for me afterwards.
Currently you can get the 20 license version albeit for $40 instead of $20 if all you're after is the Norton from amazon (if the link below doesn't work try looking for "Norton 360 Platinum, 2023 Ready, Antivirus software for 20 Devices " on amazon
I snagged this at $35 back during the year 2020 Black Friday sale (or maybe it was an xmas sale this was years ago ) ... it worked fine for me and I did indeed get the 3 free months as advertised (so you're paying for 15 months instead of the usual 12 .. one amazon reviewer stated he got an automated email saying his "three month trial period" of norton was going to expire but that never happened I guess the Norton computers got confused : )
There has been a lot of debate by wiser heads than my own as to whether or not Norton is even necessary and I absolutely admit if you're smart about where you go on the internet, avoid downloading suspicious stuff (perils of internet piracy for one thing you can always get some unexpected nasty little virus along with your free stuff) , be careful not to click on the links in scam emails , you probably don't need a security software suite to begin with.
I would still argue however that if you have members of the household who aren't quite so well educated on the internet and will click on or download things they shouldn't that this could be worth the money.
As far as Norton's VPN program I notice it DOES slow down internet speeds by quite a bit and there's definitely some arguments out there that .. again as long as you're not an internet pirate sailing the high seas ( not judging those who do it's just not my thing personally far too risky for me I'd rather not have some record company suing me for thousands of dollars or whatever ) ... that a VPN may not even be necessary and/or provide the benefits you think it does as far as protecting against hackers and the like. From what I understand there are supposed to be some very good VPN programs out there WAY better than Norton's but it's a "you get what you pay for" sort of thing (purchase them separately and it's going to be a lot more than $40 for 20 licenses for 15 months)
FYI there's another newegg combo deal for $35 where you get Deluxe+ State and a $20 gift card for select places--if you don't need the Norton and shop at one of the other places, it may be a better deal. See Slickdeals or Newegg for the deal.
How much better is the H&R Block software than the current Cash App (formerly Credit Karma) free filing? Worth the money? I was totally fine with Credit Karma, but the change over to Cash App has been clunky at best.

Yes, trying to post that deal here but keeps getting error message...
Newegg has HR Block 2022 on sale with Gift cards from different stores including Starbucks, Panera, Subway, IHOP, Panda Expree, Uber Eats, AMC, Home Depot, Lowe's, Sketchers, UA, Adidas, and more...
Comes to $15 for H&R Fed+State and you can use/gift the additional gift card.
Switching away from H & R Block after I read the article from the Markup in November 2022. I'm sure that the issue has been fixed by now, but any company that was sending my personal tax information to Facebook doesn't deserve my business.

I don't know the answer to your question but there is a lot of personal information associated with doing your taxes. Not sure how much I would trust an app for it without understanding how they may use my data (though I don't really know what H&R Block does with my data either).
Also, for those wondering: you can do Schedule C/Self Employed on Deluxe Version.
Their comparison charts are deceptive. I used to do Premium and then read a tip somewhere about Deluxe. I've been doing Deluxe now for years with Schedule C/Self Employed and it works just fine.

Yes for federal efile but efiling state will cost extra to file. You can print out state and mail it for only a stamp.
I'm still trying to figure out if I can use this - I always file with h&r blocks online system, I don't ever download anything - can I use this? Or would I need to use the "key card" option- it's not very clear, but I'm guessing this is a number that you put in for payment. Sorry, does anyone know this? I really wanted to do the 34.99 on New egg that gives you a $20 gift card but I don't even know if I can use this.

Ok this is a downloaded program for a pc. After you purchase the software they send you a link to download the program. They also email you a license code that you enter into the installed program. If you have a pc and an internet connection you can use this.

FBAR is just a separate filing you do on the IRS site, not on your tax return.
