PhIlips monitors are made by TPV since mid 00's. It was a joint venture setup and later spun off. They are the largest producers of monitors globally. TPV's other in house brand is AOC. Usually Philips branded monitors have an additional year of warranty. TPV also is an OEM producer of other brands, perhaps such as Dell. Which Philips at one point in the 00's produced all their monitors.

TPV also has the licenses for all Philips TV's produced outside of North America and Philips Audio globally. In North America Philips and Magnavox TV's are produced by Funai of Japan since around 2008/9 under license. Funai was the original OEM manufacturer, long before Foxconn/Hon Hai existed.

Why all the licensing? Because electronics have become commoditized tech with low barriers of entry. Unless you're selling high end products at top prices, you aren't making profits. Especially, when you can get old reliable A/V products dirt cheap at shop goodwill or Ebay. Better to get 5% of sales and not invest a dime. Have you seen LG's giant drop in profits report???

It's almost as if all those cargo ships stuck outside of ports for months on end finally were able to empty their holds of bulky hard-to-store high-value-yet-highly-depreciating items. And now warehouses are stuffed to the gills -- and that's money being lost.

Not only because product isn't being moved, but in some locales, additional taxes/fees are assessed on actual storage in a warehouse (in an effort to promote transactions instead of warehouses sitting on goods).

No. Go for 27" and 1440p. doesnt make sense to spend on the latest computer tech and then waste it on a little 1080p monitor in my opinion.

It's called doing your research before spending one's hard earned money. Plus having read, the FT, A/V & tech magazines and news articles through the decades does help
.
I had to google what ChatGPT was. Thanks for the info. Another day spent learning new things.

P.S FT stands for the The Financial Times. It's the peach coloured newspaper. I picked up most of those details from Philips from them. Another good source is Channelnews.com.au

Thanks OP. This is a great (very modern) looking monitor. I am looking to replace an existing (thick frame) 1080p monitor.

My use is not with a PC. I will use with an older roku unit, taped to the back with a thumb drive with photos. This monitor will serve as a digital photo frame.
