If you live in FL or other very hot climates they're just not all too breathable; I have no such issues with the Novablast series 2 or 3s, these just felt warm all the time whether it was a 30 minute run or 2 hr. Overall a terrific daily trainer; great lock down, good on wet conditions, the tongue on this shoe is weird - it moves to the side when running however I use the top runners lace most people don't and that fixed the issue for me, super comfy, lower heel stack height and if you're a heavier runner I would suggest the Novablast over these as theyre not a super cushy shoe, my wife is 6ft 230 and didnt care for this shoe, while it was "fine" she preferred her Saucony Endorphin Shift 2s over these.

What are you going to be doing at the gym exactly?

If you're doing hit classes and things along those lines I would go with Nike Air Zoom SuperRep 2 or 3s, which you should be able to find a pair for about 60 to 70 bucks tops I wouldn't pay more than 70 honestly I probably wouldn't pay more than $60-65. If you're talking about lifting I would go with a Nike Metcon, the 7s I pretty much exactly the same as the eights so I would try to find a pair of sevens at a good price.
* If you're going to be running at the gym, on a treadmill and so on then yes these Asics are perfect- just a terrific terrific shoe. This shoe is built for the long runs ( which doesn't mean you can't run the shorter runs) just means the shoe is a long run shoe (5-15 mile runs) for comfort and reliability.

I'm on my second pair of these. I agree with the other poster that these aren't the most breathable, but they have been great running shoes for me after dealing with Achilles tendinitis. These have a higher than average heel drop, which some may not like but take pressure off the Achilles when running.
