Hanging bikes perpendicular to the wall on which a rack is mounted may not be the best use of space.
Just get a couple of those rubber coated heavy duty ceiling hooks for and sink them about 5 ft apart into the rafters... Then the bike is up and out of the way
In case anyone is interested, I searched and these racks can hold bikes up to 50 pounds.

Trying to find the width of the rail but the Lowes page doesn't mention it. Searching for the Rubbermaid item# shows it as 48". The advertised load capacity is mentioning 50#. Is that per bike hook or combined total? Details are pretty sparse on the listing

This can be used to hang other stuff, not just bikes. I use mine to hang up my ladder, trimmer, and other misc things.

Yeah, they have so many different SKUs of these it seems difficult to find out which is which. But the hooks will each hold 50 lbs. So 1 bike per hook. I have a few of these in my garage and the 50lbs per hook rating feels pretty conservative to me.

That's what I thought. Who has room to still park their car or have other stuff? I need a bike rack but I don't have space for my bikes to be sticking out a mile from the wall.

$3 each, you can most certainly hang a bike from this.

I use my garage as workspace so no cars go in it. The garage doors block half the ceiling so I can't hang my bike in most of it so having them on the wall actually does save me a lot of space. In for 2.

I got a couple 4'x8' SafeRacks and hang my bikes up like the picture shown, good for off-season storage but not the best for regular use during the warmer seasons.
