You'll definitely get better CPU performance but will be stuck with Intel Iris Xe 96EU graphics which is significantly slower than the RDNA 2 based Raseon 680M graphics. On top of that, in this one, you can add an external GPU using the USB4 port whereas the other model you've referred, doesn't even have a USB4/Thunderbolt 4 port. Check the detailed specification. So, there is no normal way of adding any thunderbolt accessories or external GPU unless you want to go with some DIY methods of using M.2 to PCIe X16 converter, separate PSU to power the GPU and loosing the capability of using any PCIe SSD.
Note: Although the USB4 port is mentioned to be 20Gbps one, it is actually a full 40 Gbps Port and has been tested with external GPU docks. YouTuber ETA Prime has already tested this model.

Ecosystem that charges exorbitant money for extra memory/storage and does not allow users to upgrade those on their own, okay!

Unfortunately even if you are happy to spend money on upgrading parts, these computers are much slower than the Mac.

Proof? Don't cherry pick one software that happens to run fast on very specific Macs

How strictly is this followed / enforced when posted by Staff? 😁
You need to check with them but apart from some very handful of exceptions where some very reputed brands just started selling via Amazon, I have not seen much.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but it looks like these are shipping from China? The home page of the website indicates they are on Chinese New Year and orders will be shipped after January 30th?

Wondering why someone would choose this over the minisforum um690 for $499. Add in the memory and drive of your choosing.

Enjoy the 6900hx and an nvme of good specs rather than the oem whatever that these companies use.

Link? I see the UM90 w/ 4900H for $499 after $100 coupon. UM690 appears closer to $750.

Edit: ok direct link pre-sale barebones only. Drive + RAM might tip the scales here.

Just an info - This mini has Realtek Lan which makes it a poor choice for running VMWare Hypervisor whereas UM690 has Intel I225V Lan.

Yeah you found it.

My note there about the nvme performance, they appear to use an oem kingston typically performance is acceptable in that it functions.

In my 5625u system I upgraded to a 500gb 970 evo plus. It made a huge improvement in the daily usage of the machine. This is comparing clean os vs clean os for consistency.

In my um690 I went with a 1tb kc3000. It is phenomenally fast.

For me, even if I were to buy the system in this deal, I would still upgrade the nvme to improve performance.

Excellent note!

Tacking on to this, be prepared to have to install a nic driver during oobe if you reinstall windows.

If you think a 5 year old Mac can upgrade to the latest OS I have some bad news…
I've got a 2017 iMac running MacOS Ventura 13.1 that would tell you otherwise. It's still supported. It probably won't be supported for much longer though. I might spring for a Mac Mini M2 at some point.

I got off the PC upgrade train back in 2006, and I get about 6 years out of each Mac I've purchased. Sure, I do miss playing games sometimes, but it seems like I was upgrading my PC every 2-3 years, so I probably spent less money overall by switching to MacOS.

The only game I'm playing at the moment is Deep Rock Galactic. For that, I've been using one of those cheap Gateway laptops that Walmart was clearing out last year for $250. It's a 16Gig, 11th-gen i5 with Iris Xe graphics. Not a great GPU for gaming, but I get 40-60 fps most of the time, so it's playable.

Looks cool but I'll put that money towards mac mini

After telling me my 5 year old i7 quad with 32gb ram is unable to upgrade to windows 11, that put me in a f Windows going forward mood.

Went from Android to IOS after the fiasco with Pixel 6 pro, just moving into an ecosystem that updates hardware longer since I tend to keep my devices longer.
While you can't do a upgrade from within Win 10, you should be able to clean install Win 11

Nothing about this PC and form factor but you simply can't upgrade it beyond the ram and ssd. I've had a couple of small form factor pc's and they are simply collecting dust. Here's what I can get for a better gaming experience.

Ryzen 3600/DS3H 450m wifi deal microcenter $130, 32gb ddr4 memory $80, RX 6650 xt $260, 1tb ssd $60, Power supply/PSU ~ $100. The total cost $630 but at least you can upgrade in the future and this has better gaming experience than this PC.
