You'll definitely get better CPU performance but will be stuck with Intel Iris Xe 96EU graphics which is significantly slower than the RDNA 2 based Raseon 680M graphics. On top of that, in this one, you can add an external GPU using the USB4 port whereas the other model you've referred, doesn't even have a USB4/Thunderbolt 4 port. Check the detailed specification. So, there is no normal way of adding any thunderbolt accessories or external GPU unless you want to go with some DIY methods of using M.2 to PCIe X16 converter, separate PSU to power the GPU and loosing the capability of using any PCIe SSD.

Note: Although the USB4 port is mentioned to be 20Gbps one, it is actually a full 40 Gbps Port and has been tested with external GPU docks. YouTuber ETA Prime has already tested this model.

Ecosystem that charges exorbitant money for extra memory/storage and does not allow users to upgrade those on their own, okay!

Ok this thread has gone into derailment. My questions are simple.

If I hook up an external GPU to this thing, will I be able to play games at 120Hz or more?
Yes, you can based on what external GPU you're hooking up. Also, keep in mind, you'll always get lesser performance compared to it plugged inside a GPU using PCIe x16 slot, due to Thunderbolt 4 / USB4 bandwidth of 32 Gbps for external GPU.

Is this the same one on amazon for $585?

Same deal and in my original post, I actually posted it here but since BeeLink US as Amazon seller, doesn't meet the SD acceptable Amazon Seller criteria.

I just ordered this one today.

There are coupons for an additional $10-$15 off depending how much you spend.

$15 off $500 or more EMUCOUPON

$10 off $300 or more FBDPA022ON

https://store.minisforum.com/coll...orum-um590

I ended up buying some faster 5200mhz RAM and a faster SSD and plan on installing it myself. You can overclock the RAM by 400mhz or so which makes a significant improvement to gaming performance. I also already have a copy of windows pro 11 for it.

Looks cool but I'll put that money towards mac mini

After telling me my 5 year old i7 quad with 32gb ram is unable to upgrade to windows 11, that put me in a f Windows going forward mood.

Went from Android to IOS after the fiasco with Pixel 6 pro, just moving into an ecosystem that updates hardware longer since I tend to keep my devices longer.
Same thing with me. Apple has been a great move

If you would have to buy a new system anyhow… I get people like to hate on Apple, but they must use their devices more than they realize. This'll be my 4th year with an iPhone 11 Pro, only reason I would upgrade it is if they finally use USB C in the new ones this year. Otherwise I'll still have several years of life left in it. I also still have a PowerBook G4 and PowerMac G5 that work just fine. PowerBook still has a battery that holds about 2 hours of charge despite being 20-ish years old. People can use what works best for them, there's solid track records for performance and real stinkers of track records depending on when and where you look.
I still have my PowerBook Wall Street and it still Powers on !!

Damn your comment brought me back to those days

I get a ultra compact PC is cute and all but why get one? You can just get a decent laptop at this price and dock it instead. And you can take it with you if you need to work away from home like on a bus or on a plane.

Personally: I don't need portability and this takes up much less room on my desk than a laptop.

Did you add to the cost:

* Webcam with IR that supports Windows Hello Logitech Brio - $150. Most of the laptops have it.
* Speakers - $50
* UPS - $100

I'm just curious if people understand what they loose when they choose mini pc over laptop.

Did you ever wonder if these mini pcs are secure? They usually don't update bios when any security vulnerabilities are found. Most AAA vendors update the BIOS just after bios vendor posts a fix, but don't expect it with Chinese vendors.

A miniPC has better airflow. The ventilation on a miniPC has is much larger in area and can be placed in a cabinet. A laptop would likely overheat.

Laptops are in also very disposable, especially the battery. Once that dies in a few years you're left with a heavy paper weight.

Finally, more and more laptops are soldering in the RAM with no way to expand in the future.

There is a reason these things are niche. For most people a laptop is the most sensible choice. But some people dont need the built in monitor.
