I'm holding out hope there will be a sub $500-550 flight from LAX to Saigon this year.

Vietnam is the one country I would like to visit in Asia. Love their food.

But in the end the Commie bastards at the X-Ray took about $200 from me in a rehearsed extortion. Too long of a story to go into it.

They let my wife through without any question even though we walked out together (she is not Vietnamese). The agent kept me at his counter for over 5 minutes. He kept speaking to me in Vietnamese when he saw I was born in VN. I responded in English pretending I don't speak VN. He was frustrated but gave up and let me through at the end
While waiting for my luggage, I also saw the same phenomenon with the luggage inspection agent. He ignored all the Westerners but stopped the Vietnamese passengers for "tips". This had become an written rule for the Vietnamese travelers that they called "Viet Kieu". Personally, I would not condone this kind of "tradition" but I might not have faced a situation where I may have to give in to avoid trouble during my trip.
