What about money? Is money not a valid reason in your book? If so, can you lend me the extra $2500 to get an 83" OLED? I'll take itunes gift cards in lieu of cash. I won't complain about it actually being a couple inches smaller.

When deciding between this TV and the 86" LG deals, one of the biggest differences is panel type. The LG's use an IPS panel which provides a better viewing angle, but at the cost of contrast ratio. Samsung 85" Crystal models typically use a VA panel which has the opposite characteristics. I suspect the TU690T to be no different.

That's like saying "there's no reason to get a car that's not a Ferrari or Bentley unless you're only looking for a way to get around town and don't care about how you look". That makes sense right?? Not every consumer has an extra $4-5K for an 85" TV and will be completely satisfied with this model because it is within their budget.

FFS dude, give it a rest already. That's a much smaller TV. The TV in this thread is 28.7% larger than the one you keep hyping. Do you work for TCL or something? Or are you unable to appreciate the fact that different people have different wants and needs and they're not all like you? Before most people even begin to shop for a TV they've already made up their mind about what size they want. They're even more likely to be flexible on price than they are on size, as incredible as that may seem.

Not really no, not without abuse these days. I have a LG CX, 3000 hours, no burn in. Zero. Plenty bright as well assuming you have some light control. If your TV will be facing a wall full of windows overlooking a lake, maybe find a super bright TV, but other than that slim use case, they get plenty bright for vast majority of situations. Newer ones even brighter.

I'm not overly attached to any brand but I think your last sentence is exactly what some of us are trying to combat. You SHOULDN'T be less flexible on price than size, it very much MATTERS. By the time these folks realize it, they'll be at the stage where they'll have to pay restocking fees to fix the mistake they made. You shouldn't be so gung ho to silence other voices here. If you're in the market for an 85" TV and do not have substantial seating distance, you really want to think twice about getting a budget model. You will notice it WAAAAY more than you did on 55-65 inch TVs.

Bought the LG as it checked all the boxes:

  • CHEAP
  • BIG
I'm way behind the tech curve by a ton. Replacing a 4 YO Vizio 80" that I paid $1,299 for on a BFri deal. The LG has a much better picture than what I had. Now there are WAY better TV's and frankly that's why I hate going to Best Buy. You start justifying spending $2,500 to $4,000 because the picture is so much better. It's worth it to some……..just not me.

BTW, I have a 65" plasma Panasonic that just won't die. It weighs a ton, so when it does go…..l'm going to sawzall it.LOL

(You could sell it to me though, but this thread is not about me either). We are supposed to be helping the visitors to this site and you can't help people in ways that they don't want to be helped. We shouldn't be upselling everyone to our idea of utopia. This is a deal site. Not TV snob heaven. People who are fussy about things like picture quality usually already know that about themselves and will look at many deals here according to their desires. People who are fussy and either don't know it or are miserly will have to learn the hard way anyway. People are funny when it comes to money. If they don't know you, they're not going to throw it around like confetti. So if you want to be of service to others here, put yourself in their shoes. Stop trying to put them in yours.

The numbers I use, which come from the real world suggest that somewhere between 96-99% of the target market for this product would be satisfied with the picture quality, so I feel very comfortable saying 90+. You can bleat nuh-uh all you want, but until you bring some actual data that covers more than just internet dwellers, why should anyone listen to you?

Before any of us start bleating you to death, how about you share your supposed data showing that 96-99% of buyers don't care about image quality, or would be "satisfied" with the image this tv has?
