Buy the 2023 CU7000 for $100 more if you need a Samsung brand. The TU690T is a made for Black Friday variant of the discontinued 2020 TU7000. Made for Black Friday electronics tend to have a shorter lifespan than the regularly sold model; hence, the $100 discount.

Budget 85" - don't expect anything special. Probably fine for kids or general viewing. Serious viewing is probably a mistake. IMO if you're looking for a TV to watch movies on in a dark room at least get a model with local dimming.

Is this a good deal? Looking for ~$1,000 TV. Partial to Samsung as it's what I currently have and enjoyed for years. Current TV has recently been broken by kiddos.

Pros:
  • Great response time.
  • Decent contrast for deep blacks in dark scenes.
  • Great selection of streaming apps.

Cons:
  • Can't smooth out low bitrate content.
  • Lacks a local dimming feature to improve dark scene performance.
  • Not very bright.
  • Washed out when viewed at an angle.
  • Very limited selection of inputs; only two HDMI ports.

We have this in the playroom. Perfect for the kid and family movie nights. When the wife and I want to watch something more of our liking we stay down stairs and watch on our 65" s90c. Sacrificing size for quality. That being said, no real complaints about the 85" as it does its job given the size of the playroom and what its mostly being used for (plus if kids throw a wii remote through it you aren't out a bunch of $$$).

Are you sitting (eyeball to screen) at the THX ideal recommended distance of 6.5ft from that 65 incher? Most people sit much farther away, so they're sacrificing immersion (hence overall quality of experience) without realizing it.

Every week we see this TV go on sale, and it gets cheaper and cheaper, but its a terrible TV. Ass colors and motion processing, dated lighting technology, not much io, capped at 60fps/hz, its a big tv sure, but consider how cheap a good TV is now at this size.... This is on par w/ Hisense's lower end A7H series products in terms of image quality & motion, but has louder speakers, significantly higher contrast, much brighter, dont run on tizen os, support for Dolby Vision, and cost $100 less at the same size..... Samsung doesnt even want to make this model any more....

I bought this at Black Friday. I am really happy with it for the size and price point. Paired with a refurb Klipsch 600 since the built in speakers are absolutely abysmal. Agree with another reviewer - perfect for a bonus/playroom imo.

Let's call a spade a spade here:

This is a HUGE TV for $800, and if size is all you are concerned with, get it. Just know that is where all the $$$ is going, this has very low picture quality, no good features, no bells and whistles.

But again, if all you care about is size, this thing prob can't be beat in price to size ratio.
