I've been noticing a lot of standard gigabit switches dropping in price lately, and I think it's exactly because more and more people are upgrading to 2.5 Gb switches instead. However, what a lot of people don't realize about unmanaged switches is that without having bigger uplinks, you are still ultimately limited to that individual port speed when routing traffic back. I personally opted for a 2.5 Gb switch that features 10 Gb uplinks just so I could maintain a full 10 Gb pipe back down to my router.
