Per the setup and specifications PDF [dell.com], the LCD is 220 nits, 45% NTSC, 600:1 contrast, WVA (aka IPS), so it is a budget panel as expected but at least it is not a TN screen. Occasionally one can find 300nit panels (some Lenovo laptops) or better contrast/color, though generally those are in higher-tier laptops.

Tiger Lake-U CPUs officially support 64GB RAM and the i5-1135G7 supports DDR4-3200 speed RAM so there is a good chance this laptop will take 32GB DDR4 SO-DIMM (but I doubt anyone would want >32GB on this budget laptop). Manufacturers tend not to confirm RAM sizes that they do not sell as a configuration/option (need thorough certification with various brands, etc). At least it has two SO-DIMM slots, whereas many other brands (Acer, Asus, Lenovo) love to solder one channel on the mainboard.

As others have found out, the empty 2.5" bay has caddy and cables included to mount a 7mm HDD or SSD.

USB-C is a strange omission, and Dell explicitly states the HDMI port outputs 1080p60 max, no 2K/4K.

I wasn't expecting Macbook Air build quality, but the case for this laptop is just OK. All plastic and the biggest issue I have is the keyboard flexes when typing.

I installed an SSD in the open drive bay, added a 16 GB ram chip, and installed Ubuntu server on the newly installed SSD so I can dual boot into Windows or Linux. Installing and running Ubuntu server has been flawless.

The Dell site specs say 16 GB max memory. I installed a Crucial 16GB DDR4-3200 SODIMM into the open slot and in both Windows and Ubuntu I can access all 24 GB. I would assume you could install two 16 GB for a total of 32 GB if you wanted.

The Intel Core i5-1135G7 Processor does not have the Intel UHD Graphics.
It comes with the 80 Execution Units of Intel® Iris® Xe Graphics.

This Iris Xe iGPU is way better than UHD iGPU. It is about as good as the AMD's VEGA 6/7/8 iGPU.
Yes it does, 11th gen and 12th gen intel i5s and i7s all run UHD and not Xe with 8GB of ram, need dual channel 16GB or more to run Iris Xe. Maybe you can do it with 8GB but must be dual channel.

1135G7 is a Tiger Lake - U processor and as such has the GEN12 Xe G7 GPU. It's built into the core. It's not something that turns on or off determined by your RAM.

There's more to it than this...per Intel's spec sheet:

"Processor Graphics ‡
Processor Graphics indicates graphics processing circuitry integrated into the processor, providing the graphics, compute, media, and display capabilities. Processor graphics brands include Intel® Iris® Xe Graphics, Intel® UHD Graphics, Intel® HD Graphics, Iris® Graphics, Iris® Plus Graphics, and Iris® Pro Graphics. See the Intel® Graphics Technology for more information.

Intel® Iris® Xe Graphics only: to use the Intel® Iris® Xe brand, the system must be populated with 128-bit (dual channel) memory. Otherwise, use the Intel® UHD brand."

https://ark.intel.com/content/www...0-ghz.html

And, more interestingly:
"Note 11th Gen Intel® Core™ processors (codenamed Tiger Lake) in single-channel memory configurations will default to less than 80 EUs, in alignment with Intel® UHD Graphics branding. In this configuration, it will always show Intel® Iris® Xe Graphics in the Operating System. To properly enable Iris® Xe Graphics the system must be in dual-channel memory configuration. Consult with your computer manufacturer for more information."

https://www.intel.com/content/www...phics.html

While I agree it's the same architecture in both configs, I'm guessing the branding difference is due to a likely staggering gap in performance...they don't want a gimped Xe iGPU dragging the Xe trademark down, so they want you to call it a UHD. They're actually disabling some of the EU's (they don't say how many....) to match the available memory bandwidth.

I'm guessing the OEMs that put them in this config may also pay a discounted price on the CPU (since it has to be branded a lower grade system).

Not quite true; See replies above. It's possible you can unlock the Xe within by installing dual-channel memory (not sure if the mobo is actually configured to run two channels...a spare SODIMM slot doesn't necessarily mean 2nd channel...it's possible Intel forces the OEM to gimp the design to avoid this "free" upgrade).

You can get out of windows S mode very easily without having to re-install everything. It's just a few console commands and then you're good to go.

Absolutely it will play Minecraft. It might not do well with a lot of mods and I surely wouldn't do any shader mods, but other than that Minecraft won't be a problem.
