It's supposed to switch automatically for different devices but unfortunately that was not my experience. Eero even has a troubleshooting option to temporarily only enable 2.4ghz but that did not work either. Almost gave up until I thought of the idea to try my old AirPort Express router.

I don't get it. If the device talks only 2.4 and the router talks both 2.4 and 5 at the same time, so what's the problem?

I have the wifi 6 version of this and the performance was poor.
Signal could not penetrate through thick walls and the speed at my 4th one was a 10th of my 1gig max speed.
Switched to orbi with 3 total units and the speed is 75% of max in the same location.

Any way to force these to run only 2.4ghz? I recently set up a chamberlain smart garage opener but it only seemed to work when I set up a 2.4ghz only guest network on my AirPort Express connected into my eero pro 6e. I've run into issues with other legacy devices requiring only 2.4ghz so a permanent network for these devices would be great.
Yup, my chamberlain dictated which routers I can buy and I ended up with Asus xt8. Separate channels for 2.4 and 5.

You go into eero app..

Settings
Troubleshooting
My device won't connect
My device is 2.4 GHz only

And click button
Temporarily pause 5Ghz

This should force 2.4 so that you can get your device connected, hopefully updated so by the time the 15 minute timer is up, it's all good

Won't be an issue after you get it connected this first time

Also side note, all the IOT type devices in my house, light switches, plugs, cams, thermostats, I put them all on the guest network

They all just connect back to cloud interface so no need for them to be on my local network

Only thing on my network is my phone, laptops, pc's, tv streamers

I heard wifi 6+ is the way to go, unsure why the plain wifi 6 is terrible

I had this wifi 5 version and it worked great, for $84 bucks I think it's a good deal even todays time

In fact when I got my eero pro 6, I added it to the same mesh as these wifi 5 devices. And together they worked really well.

The. I traded the wifi 5 in for deal with Wifi Pro 6E and then again added them to existing mesh, all worked fine together

This is what sold me on Eero, as Google does not work the same way

The previous gen google wifi does not work in the same mesh as the new ones, at least this is what I read , unsure if they fixed that with software by now.

6+ shows $299 on best buys site!!

I had responded to another comment that I did switch it to 2.4ghz in troubleshooting and it still did not work. It only worked with the AirPort Express as I was able to split the two bands permanently and connected to 2.4ghz. I'm not sure if you've used Chamberlain but it's been the one that has been extremely picky with networks. Tried troubleshooting for about 2 hours with eero to no avail. Eero needs to allow for more granular control, but other than this have had no issues with most of my other devices.
