Also if you put this down in the fall, you won't be able to overseed. If you put it down in the spring, you are hammering chemical fertilizers into your lawn at a bad time (for us midwesterners). Chemical fertilizers in the spring forces top growth at the expense of root growth. You want root growth to prepare the grass for the hot dry summer months ahead. You want to feed the soil, not the grass.
Basically if this stuff was free, I still wouldn't take it.
If you have that many weeds in that span of time, it should dawn on you that your approach to lawn care isn't working. The best way to handle weeds is being proactive. That means establishing a healthy full lawn so weeds can't grow. Go get a soil test conducted so you know what "chemicals" your lawn actually needs.
