Btw, have you compared game load times on your Samsung 980 to any others? I bought two WD SN 570s that are supposed to be very similar but were cheaper when I searched. They've been fantastic for my laptop and desktop. For bootup, gaming, software dev, low temps etc. For game loads, it wasn't that much faster than my DRAM SATA SSDs though, as expected.
As another user mentioned in his review, without the cache (DRAM cache, 1GB in the 1TB ssd), the 980 firmware cleverly makes use of system memory - which is _fast_ these days.
However - in a machine with 8 GB, or even 16 GB at times - depending upon what programs you're using, you may find the 980 suffering on multi-file operations if it can't secure about a GB of system memory. I would still pick the 980 all day long as a data drive, but might hesitate if I didn't have sufficient system memory (I've 32GB and could spare the GB). In an 8GB system I would probably think twice about the 980. Well, in an 8GB system I would be buying memory first, ;-)[/COLOR]
anyone have issues using this for a C drive with 8 gigs of ram? thanks.
