I bought the 2TB to put in an enclosure and its extremely slow, unbearable after filling 1TB. It was also super slow initially. Nowhere near advertised speeds.
It looks to be a dram-less SATA SSD, which makes random writes slower, so it should be a decent boot drive. These are kinda big for a dedicated boot drive so it would probably be better to spend a bit more to get one with dram so that you can put other files on there like games and what not. Then, everything would be faster in general.

I do agree with a previous reply where they don't trust Patriot. It is anecdotal, but I've had 2 usb sticks of theirs die prematurely and an ssd get random cell failures after only a couple years. That was just my experience though, so I stick with Samsung and Crucial for the most part. Just my 2 cents though.

Cheap enclosures will do this with any drive.

Looks like it'll drop to around 240MB/s after 16gb or so constant writing on SATAS
So i tried two different enclosures and also various usb 3.0 cables and still the same. Ran crystaldiskmark and here are the results with half full (Attached) maybe its defective. not sure.

I bought a 1TB model, tried on my PC and found the write speeds to be slow, start out ok but drop dramatically. Currently using it with a cheap external enclosure plugged in to my external Port of my television's DVR and loaded it up with movies. Works just fine for that but wouldn't recommend it on a PC.

The teahgroup 2tb is much more reliable. Had failures on a couple og their usb sticks after a few months.

These cheap while I wouldn't recommend them for PCs unless you are literally using them for game storage, they would be perfect for pairing with older game consoles. Be a fairly cheap upgrade for a PS4 Pro.

If you need cheaper ssds I really like ADATA over Patriot. You might not get as big storage space wise but it'll perform better and last longer.

Enclosures don't limit sata ssd's much at all. As seen the random read writes are way below the ceiling anyways. Only bad thing about usb is connection reliability and perhaps contention for bandwidth as unless you have a fancy expensive card with a true separate controller per port, its all shared bandwidth.

There is one thing, if the enclosure is old enough it won't support trim, then you are in trouble with a SSDlaugh out loud

This would be good for a steam game drive. Some kinda data that if it were to die wouldn't be a big deal other than time re downloading. But because it's a cheap ssd it doesn't have a d ram cache. This could become slower than a mechanical hard drive when it gets tons of stuff written to it. So you been warned

I've tested various cheap drives including patriot, pny, inland etc. after 3-5GB of data written it's funny how they will crawl down to 70-80mbps write speeds. Sometimes slower.

I'd like to test drives I've been using for a while. What software are people using? Mac/Win?

Every Crucial SSD/NVMe I see has bottom tier TBW though.

I should specify that I like the crucial mx500 series ssd when I can get it on sale. Like I said, my experience is anecdotal. I've never had a crucial mx500 series have a critical failure on me like the 2 patriot drives I've owned in the past. One thing to note is that the TBW is set by the manufacturer and usually is in line with their warranty. I know Samsung's is the best, so just get that if you're concerned. I'd wait for a sale, but they seem to pop up fairly regularly. I usually buy items when they go on sale a year or so before I know I'm going to build, but I know everyone does things differently.

Crucial MX500 is $42 for 500gb on Amazon. Much better reviews.

Like the P200, this model has a DRAM-less SMI SM2259XT controller but while the P200 has Micron TLC NAND, the P210, at least in the 2TB version, appears to have QLC. For PCIe disks, HMB can make up for the lack of DRAM, but HMB is not available on SATA disks. I am not opposed to DRAM-less SATA disks as they bring a great price/performance ratio for the right use cases.

This is a really good price for the capacity, but it might not be a great overall performer compared to other budget options from ADATA, Team Group, and Silicon Power. I've not had a lot of time with Patriot disks, so anecdotal, of course. However, it will still be faster than a traditional spinning disk, so this could be a good general storage option at this price.

It should work . Probably you may need a 3.5 to 2.5 drive caddy.
