I had 200,000 points and just booked 5 nights in Paris and 4 nights in Nice, France with 195,000 points for May. Each city had the 4th night free since thats the perk with this card. Paris was kinda expensive so I probably could have squeezed out 12 nights with the points if I booked it all in Nice France or another city. For top hotels maybe 2-3 night since I saw nice Paris hotel for 80,000 points a night. I always aim for the 4th night free. I like this card and also got their Business version card too
Roughly $1000 depending. Here's an analysis [frequentmiler.com]
Free annual reward night makes the card a no brainer, more than offsets the AF. I have one card each for business and personal use, stay mostly in the sock drawer.

Oh....yup, good call I left that out... makes it pretty tough to find any math where the more expensive card isn't worth significantly more than the annual fee unless you just have no plans to ever travel again and only need, specifically, 120k IHG points for some reason.

THAT said- the $25/half year United credit is somewhat hard to put full value on because it has a VERY short expiration on it... if you normally add United travelbank cash it's good for 5 years.... the IHG $25/every 6 mo credit expires after anywhere from 1-6 months depending when you get the first one... (July 15 and Jan 15 are the expirations each time-- first credit is right after you sign up for it the first time, then on July 1 and Jan 1 after that for as long as you have the card).... so you only get value at all if you continuously make United cash bookings at least 1-2 times a year
There's a trick to extend the expiration. Book a flight with this travelbank that's NOT basic economy. Then cancel the flight after 24 hours. You'll receive face value flight credit that extends another year. Source: https://www.mypointslife.com/2022...-cash.html

Huh...nice tip, +rep.... though I'll caveat with it looks like what you end up with is an FFC (future flight credit)- and these are restricted to only being used by the same traveler the cancelled ticket was issued to- which does reduce flexibility a bit compared to travel bank $-- still, better than just losing it to expiration.....

is it worth upgrading? i have the $49 annual fee card and i get a free anniversary night. i feel like my AF is too good to change…

So the ideal move was to get this card TOO, but sadly they closed that window of opportunity almost exactly 1 year ago... with both you got 2 free night certs a year and got to stack 4th night free and the 10% rebate on point redemptions.

Now if it's worth upgrading depends on what value, if any, you put on one set of features vs another...

For $50 more you'd lose the 10% rebate on point bookings, but gain:

4th night free on point bookings
The ability to add points to free night certs to book more expensive rooms with them

If you don't tend to book 4 nights at a time with points, and have no trouble finding a good use for your current 40k max annual cert, might as well stick with the $49 card.

Im lost here. The ones I found in May in Paris are around 40K per night. how can you still have 4 nights in Nice when you only have 200K points? I know you said the 4th night is free but I still don't see how you can get that many nights for 200K points.

honestly the hotels were much more available and cheaper in February for Early May booking. The dates I booked in earlier march were 24,500 a night for 4 nights on the Canal by 14th district. I also did one night for 25,000 in Paris. For Nice, they were 17,000-19,000 if booked for 4 nights. I could have gotten them for less points had I Booked in early Feb so lesson learned, book 3 months in advance for Paris. I noticed as the dates get closer, the hotels switch from points to money so I guess they only allow a certain number of rooms to be booked with points. But I swear that in early Feb I saw a hotel going for 23,000 points but in March it switched to 40-50,000 points for same days.

The IHG points go directly to your IHG account at IHG website unless you dont have an an account number yet. whatever points you have, you get to keep even if you close the card. You do lose the per of getting 4th night free since you need the card for that. Also the Annual free night is worth up to 40,000 points so that value is higher than the $99 you pay annually. For reference, ive seen 25,000 point hotels that cost around $140 for the same night. The reward nihgt does expire within that year os if yo u dont use it you lose it like I just did. It's a good card if you actually stay in hotels. I had it for 2 years

Looks like the business premier card is offering 140k points but I believe you can apply for this card if you have the legacy $49 fee card. I was wondering if anyone can confirm this and if you would recommend going that route instead so I continue to have 10% points back and 4th night free stack for future reward stays?

Too bad they don't run any hostels! 175K points would go a long way!

I've heard some rumors that with some of Chase's co branded cards they'll accept people above 5/24. Is there anyone here who was above 5/24 and got approved for this card?

I have a 49$ annual fee IHG card from chase and got declined when I applied it due to having $49 annual fee card. I cancelled the card 3 days ago, am I able to reapply immediately or do I have to wait 30 days? The new card rewards I got were way before 24 months, so for that part I should be good.
