Studies(as well as my own usage every night for 7 years) show that less is more when it comes to melatonin. 300 micrograms is more than enough. 3 milligrams is way too much 10 mg is insanity.
I came to post this but knew in my heart of hearts it had already been said.

Edit:
300-600 micrograms is more than enough for most people. With 300 being the recommended dosage for age-related sleep problems and 600 being the recommended starting dosage for diagnosed insomnia.
Good stuff, but I do wonder if more has been learned since this study was done 21 years ago.

Same dosage, but not the quick dissolving/sublingal variant, which is faster acting and also more effective.

My problem is not falling but staying asleep. Even the timed release one's seem to dissolve too quickly. Any OTC recommendations?

3mg is a decent dose if you take it with three beers — otherwise you might want to try 10mg

I find that sweeteners are counter productive when trying to fall asleep. They should not add anything except essentials. Little sweet can wake you up, even artificial ones. It's about telling brain that something exciting is going on in your tongue when you put candy in there, and you are awake for something more.

I had awful insomnia until I started taking a Benadryl in addition to low-dose melatonin. Now I sleep through the night most nights.

My doctor said to stick to 1 mg and never more than 2. Not enough studies done on long term effects

30 mins sunbath in the morning from 7 to 9. 200g white rice and 1 kiwi after dinner. You don't need this one anymore.

How do you feel when you wake up after taking this? How long do these last?

Nope, I take 1/4 of a 1mg dose, when I need it, and I'm out like a light writing 10 minutes.

1 mg to 3mg is good for adults. 300mcg is just under 1/3 of 1mg. If 300 mcg is working for you, you dont even need melatonin pills.
