Thanks. Didn't get an e-mail but the offer was in my account.
Friendly reminder to never redeem your points as a statement credit for Citi double cash, just get the cash back deposited to your bank account. That way you can fully realize that 1% cash back on card payments.

A statement credit will reduce your balance due which would in turn reduce the amount of rewards you will receive. Having the money go into your back account allows you to maximize the credit card rewards you'll be receiving.

Ah, I understand now. I just use them at Amazon or something, which would be the same. Thanks!
Citi just credited my account with 5% off the recent PayPal purchases that I made. Because it's an account credit, it will be on top of the regular 2% back though it will be slightly less than 2% because an account credit reduces the total amount that you've spent.

How do you check this? I just linked the card and placed an online order using PayPal. I want to check if I got all this done correctly but I don't know how to check if I actually got 5%. Thanks so much.

It will take a few days after the PayPal transaction clears on your card. Then you'll see a credit in your transaction list equaling 5% of the PayPal transaction.
I have a paypal transaction from a week ago that has cleared, but I still don't have the credit. Guess I'll contact them if I don't get it in another week.
Give it a try.
My statement closing date isn't until 2/17.
I can also see Citi being Citi and just giving us just the 5% and completely ignoring that the purchase was made at a retailer in one of the top spend categories.
My statement ended yesterday and I can confirm this works for the full 10%. I used it at CVS for the drugstore for my standard custom cash 5% TYP and I received the 5% statement credit. A totally of $50 cash back.
Only thing about paying PayPal at CVS is…..
1.) most of the employees doesn't know it exist and are confused on how it works.
2.) may not work
3.) fraud detection may be triggered (I was triggered over $200)
4.) not all CVS locations have it.
Overall, it's not simple as I thought it would be. I went to multiple CVS locations to figure it out. Obviously, I only went to CVS if they were on the way from/to a location that I was already going.

I'm confused, you get an extra 1% from depositing?

I would say…..buy it under $200 at a time. YMMV.
Thanks for the data point!
When I log into my account at Citi, I see that Drugstores is now the top category. I purchased a $50 Amazon gift card to test.
Looks like I will be buying some VISA gift cards.
After the $5.95 activation fee, the return is 8.87%.
Yeah, I got the fraud detection with Chase the first time I tried buying a $500 VISA gift card at CVS.
Also, people need to get familiar with the Paypal app to know which QR code to show.
There is one for paying and one for getting paid.

How long between the date the purchase posted and the date of the credit?
My earliest Paypal transaction posted on Jan. 30, and I still don't see a credit for that.

There were multiple transactions but the credit posted in a lump sum on one date. That date happened to the same day that my statement closed so I suspect that must be the trigger.

Thanks.
I guess I will have to buy $450 in gift cards at CVS before my statement closes 2/17 and hope that I get the 10%.

I have a PayPal purchase from Jan 29 but the credit hasn't shown up yet. Based on what people have posted above, it sounds like the credit will come once the statement period closes.
