I work at an university near Los Angeles. Starting 10 years ago I noticed new students didn't have Facebook accounts. Now it's very rare that I meet a student with a Facebook account. I see that process happening with Instagram. I understand why Meta is worried about retaining users.

I sell guitars on Marketplace.

It's very common to get people in their 20s who only have Facebook accounts to use Marketplace.

Facebook is for old people.

I'd love to see it go the way of Blockbuster, but sadly, Facebook isn't really the problem.

Humans who aren't intelligent enough to not be outwitted by an algorithm are the problem.

Lol I doubt it's rare for you to have students without a facebook. Why would you even know if they have one?

I use facebook to sell stuff, i think they could pivot into a more community platform instead of forcing people to get on facebook for personal stuff.

That's the sole reason to keep it today (and I'm saying this an an old-timer, joined in 2007); to buy and sell stuff on FB marketplace -- if there was an app separated marketplace from FB, I'd delete FB for sure. My teenagers have ZERO interest in FB by the way, when asked their response is: 'that's for old people' + 'facebook is lame'.

I agree. I keep getting banned because I don't agree with people telling whales that they are beautiful. I deleted my account but I do miss the marketplace.

So you have to give a bunch of personal info for a sticker lambasting another company that collects a bunch of personal info. Makes sense.

Craigslist never created or cared to create a real app -- so it basically died as people want to quickly snap pics w/ their phones and post items w./ minimal pain -- CL couldn't offer that -- I heard it's due to their quirky owner who didn;t really care to expand and get on w/ the times...

Also fake in the literal sense. Half the comments on posts from popular pages (news, etc) are from fake accounts trying to get people to click on links. Facebook doesn't do anything if you report them, so they must want the increased user count.

Same. I've been using my wife's account to sell stuff but finally she said no more lol so sadly I've been forced to get my own Facebook account. Still, I setup a fake identity.
